Stranger Things season 4 has revealed a few important details in its character bios, with Mike’s description hinting at undoing his best season 3 change. Ahead of Stranger Things season 4, Vol. 1’s release date on May 27, Netflix released official character biographies on its Tudum website. Along with confirmations of which couples are broken up or still together, Stranger Things teased which characters will be at odds again in the new season.

While the majority of his focus has been on his friendship-turned-romance with Eleven, Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard) is notable in Stranger Things for his antagonism with some of his closest friends. Although friends fighting is normal, Mike and Lucas Sinclair (Caleb McLaughlin) were almost always at odds during Stranger Things seasons 1 and 2, typically due to their opposing views on Eleven’s powers or welcoming Max into their party. However, Stranger Things season 3 finally saw Mike and Lucas on the same page, with the two characters becoming much closer over their shared experiences with their girlfriends Eleven and Max.

Mike finally getting along with Lucas was a great change for the teenage character in Stranger Things season 3, as he dropped much of his antagonism while simply trying to make amends with Eleven. However, Stranger Things season 4 suggests this dynamic was only short-lived, as Mike’s character biography teases that he and Lucas will once again be at odds. His official Netflix Tudum description states that “Mike is a dedicated member of the Dungeons & Dragons group, Hellfire Club, along with Dustin and Lucas – as long as Lucas’s basketball doesn’t get in the way.” By pointing out that Lucas’s basketball will be in conflict with Mike’s loyalty and passion for the Dungeons & Dragons club, it’s safe to say that the two will be arguing over the high school trials and tribulations of popularity and changing cliques, thus doing away with the friends’ partnership in Stranger Things season 3.

ST Mike, Dustin, Max at Basketball Game

A possible falling out between Mike and Lucas was already teased during Stranger Things season 4’s official trailer, which saw Mike rolling his eyes at a school game while Lucas ran onto the basketball court with his team. Mike was also seen sporting his Hellfire Club t-shirt during this game, suggesting he's extremely dedicated to this hobby in order to distract himself from being so far away from his girlfriend Eleven, who’s been living in California since the end of Stranger Things season 3. Stranger Things season 4’s tease of Mike getting angry at Lucas for missing Hellfire Club also exhibits some hypocrisy from a notable storyline with the character in season 3. When Lucas and Mike were obsessing over their girlfriends, Will became increasingly frustrated that none of the guys wanted to play Dungeons & Dragons like the old days, with Mike snapping at him that they’re “not kids anymore.”

Mike and Lucas fighting again will likely only take up a small section of Stranger Things season 4’s time, as Mike will soon be setting off for sunny California for Spring Break while Lucas helps investigate Creel House. Stranger Things’ character bios also revealed that Max and Lucas broke up between Stranger Things seasons 3 and 4, with Max isolating herself from the group while she grieves her stepbrother Billy. By the end of Stranger Things season 4, petty arguments about attending basketball practice over Hellfire Club meetings will be inconsequential, with Mike and Lucas inevitably joining forces against Vecna.
