Stranger Things season 4 has now begun filming, and while fans wait for plot details to be revealed, they continue bringing all types of theories. The most popular ones, especially now that it has been confirmed that Hopper is alive, are all about how he survived and how he will escape from prison in Russia, and the key might be on one of the group’s biggest enemies: the Demogorgon. Season 3 of Stranger Things left many questions that are still waiting to be answered, the biggest ones now being if and how Eleven will regain her powers and how she will reunite with Hopper.

Last season also saw the group divided, not only through the entire conflict (as it usually happens, with all of them joining forces at some point) but at the very end, as the Byers and Eleven moved out of Hawkins, leaving fans wondering if they will be able to continue fighting against monsters and humans together in season 4. Meanwhile, in Russia, Hopper is being held captive and forced to work in a chain gang. If that’s not enough, the mid-credits scene in season 3’s finale revealed that the Russians have successfully opened a gate to the Upside Down, and now have (at least) one Demogorgon in a cage.

The teasers released so far haven’t shown any monsters yet, but there’s one subtle detail in the one titled “From Russia With Love” that has made some fans wonder if the key to Hopper’s escape from prison will be none other than the Demogorgon.

Stranger Things Theory: How The Demogorgon Will Help Hopper Escape

Stranger Things confirms Hopper is the American season 4

The teaser trailer Stranger Things dropped on Valentine’s Day confirmed Hopper is the American prisoner, and towards the end of the video, it looks as if he’s staring at something in the distance, and he looks a bit scared (and tired, of course). In addition to that, after the teaser cuts to black, a weird screech can be heard, and it sounds a lot like the noise a Demogorgon makes. With that in mind, some fans believe that Hopper saw the Russians’ Demogorgon approaching, and he’s obviously aware of what the creature is capable of.

A theory suggests that the Demogorgon will find its way out of the prison/lab in Kamchatka and go on a killing spree. Hopper is surely the only one at the base that knows very well what a Demogorgon can do, and knows that it can’t be good to have one running wild and free. The guards would then turn their attention to the monster attacking their people, and this is when Hopper will see an opportunity to escape – not just from the monster, but from the Russians. This, of course, would kickstart his story in season 4 of Stranger Things, as his new mission would be to find his way back to Hawkins to warn the rest about the Russians’ experiments and the Demogorgon they were keeping and is now somewhere in the snowy land of Kamchatka. This theory solves how Hopper will escape from the Russians, but it also leaves a lot of questions in the air – but that’s up to the writers of Stranger Things to figure out.
