The Stranger Things writers' room has provided fresh teases about the show's highly-anticipated season 4, and they all point to signs of a prison break. Since its premiere in 2016, Netflix's breakout hit has only gotten more and more popular with each passing season, with its third being one of the most watched streaming shows in 2019. While no official date has been given for Stranger Things' fourth season, it likely won't arrive until 2021.

Fans got a major surprise earlier today in the form of a teaser for Stranger Things' fourth season. It confirmed what many fans already guessed: Hawkin's beloved Sheriff Jim Hopper (David Harbour) is still alive. His fate was left up in the air at the end of the third season finale, though a post-credits scene suggested he was still alive and kicking, just being held captive somewhere. The teaser confirmed that, showing Hopper working among a Russian prison gang. However, based on the clues shared online, he won't stay there for long.

The official Stranger Things writers' room Twitter account shared five movie titles following the teaser's release as part of their special Video Store Friday, where they share movies that were discussed in the writers' room that week. The catch? Every single movie is about a prison break.  Check the list out below:

This indicates Hopper will be making a break of his own, though exactly how he'll get all the way from Russia back to Indiana is a mystery. Perhaps he'll have some help? Or maybe his adopted daughter Eleven (Millie Bobbie Brown) will sense he's out there and come to his rescue? Either way, Hopper's journey is going to be a long and treacherous one, and he'll likely be a changed man by the time it's all done. With only nine episodes expected in Stranger Things season 4, hopefully it won't take Hopper too long to get out of the Russian prison.

Of course, there are still many mysteries to uncover, like how Hopper even survived in the first place. Fans have been dying for answers since the entire third season arrived on Netflix last July, and they will likely have to wait a while longer for answers. The teaser came with an official announcement that production is underway, suggesting things are still early on in the process. If that's the case, the fourth season of Stranger Things probably won't arrive until next year, though some are still hoping for a 2020 release. At least fans can comfort themselves knowing they'll definitely see Hopper again, even if he isn't in the best of shape.
