Stranger Things creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, have confirmed that there will be some character deaths in the season 4 finale. Stranger Things season 4 volume 1 released on May 27, 2022, and volume 2 will be following on July 1. Viewers are anxiously awaiting volume 2 after the thrilling first volume. In the first half of the season, after multiple mysterious deaths occur in Hawkins, the gang learns they are dealing with a serious threat from a new and powerful villain - Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower).

The undead creature is exceedingly powerful and Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), the only force who could potentially stop him, is still struggling to get her powers back. Volume 1 ended on a cliffhanger with several characters in dire situations, particularly Nancy (Natalia Dyer) and Steve (Joe Keery). It seemed as if volume 1 was building up for some character deaths, especially since it added several new characters, resulting in a very large cast that could certainly withstand some whittling down. Noah Schnapp was the first star to tease that there were going to be some major deaths in volume 2, but now the creators are commenting on it, too.

In an interview with Variety, the Duffer brothers confirmed that there will be deaths in season 4. They took some of the heat off of Schnapp, who was accused of spoiling volume 2, by pretty much reiterating exactly what he said ahead of the finale. The interviewer asked if there would be a body count by the end of the season, and they responded with an affirmative, simply saying, "For sure, for sure."

Hence, the Duffer brothers have formally confirmed that viewers can anticipate some deaths by the end of season 4. A death was pretty expected, but the repeated confirmation that there will be more than one death is definitely concerning and surprising. At the same time, neither Schnapp nor the Duffer brothers confirmed if the deaths will be major characters or newer cast additions. Stranger Things has a habit of killing off characters that were introduced after the first season. This trend can be seen with Bob (Sean Astin) and Alexi (Alec Utgoff) who both were introduced after season 1 and died the same season they made their debut in. There is a chance Stranger Things could be honing in on a newer character, but there's still a possibility they could kill off one of the original gang, too.

Ultimately, the confirmation of multiple deaths is nerve-wracking and gives no indication of whom may die. Viewers are definitely very worried for Nancy and Steve, but that may have been to throw viewers off. Meanwhile, the trend in Stranger Things' previous deaths makes a character like Enzo (Tom Wlaschiha) a strong candidate for death. At the same time, nearly anyone is fair game, and the teasing of these deaths hints at them being big and surprising. Stranger Things' creators confirming multiple deaths only creates more anticipation for what the final body count will be, and whom it will consist of in volume 2.
