Warning! This post contains spoilers for Stranger Things season 4

Iron Maiden responds to a hilarious Stranger Things season 4 moment which sees Eddie defend the heavy metal band's music. After an almost three-year hiatus, Stranger Things season 4 finally hit screens back in May, delivering an explosive seven episodes before its final two instalments released last week. Bringing back the series' beloved core cast, which includes the likes of Millie Bobby Brown and David Harbour, the series also welcomed newcomer Joseph Quinn as Eddie Munson, who became an immediate hit with audiences.

Many delighted in episode 9's hero-moment for Eddie, which saw him distract a terrifying hoard of bats by shredding Metallica's "Master of Puppets" as his friends attempted to take down this season's villain, Vecna. The show put a particular focus on music this season, having sent Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill" skyrocketing through the charts after it featured in a pivotal scene in which the song enabled Max (Sadie Sink) to escape Vecna's clutches. One other particular scene, which saw the gang desperately searching for a song to save Nancy, saw Eddie passionately defend Iron Maiden in a hilarious moment which has since become its own Tik Tok trend.

Iron Maiden are not the first band to respond to a Stranger Things season 4 reference, as Metallica also previously reacted to the show, calling it an "incredible honor to be such a big part of Eddie’s journey." Eddie's tragic death in the final episode of Stranger Things season 4 sent shockwaves through the show's fandom after a number of both funny and emotional moments quickly established Quinn's character as a firm favorite. Since the show's dramatic conclusion, a petition for Eddie to return in Stranger Things' upcoming season 5 has continued to gain considerable traction, surpassing more than 20k signatures.

This sweet acknowledgment from Iron Maiden certainly highlights the scope of Stranger Things and the reach that the show has continued to amass with each new season. With many hoping that Stranger Things creators, the Duffer brothers, can find a way to bring Eddie back for season 5 and some even theorizing that the character isn't actually dead at all, it's fair to assume that he now has some high-profile fans in Iron Maiden. These fun nods to real-world songs and artists are always welcomed by audiences, and with the Duffer brothers now set to begin writing Stranger Things season 5 in the next month or so, it remains to be seen just who will get a shout-out next.
