A new fan-made video turns a hilarious Stranger Things season 4 Dustin and Steve scene into LEGOs. Gaten Matarazzo’s Dustin and Joe Keery’s Steve have been fan favorite characters since the show’s beginning. But their famous bromance really got going in Stranger Things season 2, and became even stronger throughout season 3.

Of course Stranger Things season 4 brought a big shake-up to the cast, with the core group of characters being broken up and sent on their own far-flung adventures. But the Duffer Brothers were smart to make sure that Dustin and Steve remained together so their bickering friendship could continue to delight fans. In high school when season 4 begins, Dustin is part of the Dungeons & Dragons-loving Hellfire Club that’s so central to the season’s action. Steve meanwhile has gone from working at the destroyed Scoops Ahoy to toiling away at Family Video, with Maya Hawke’s Robin still working beside him. But of course mundane normal life in Hawkins is soon disrupted by the arrival of a new threat from the Upside Down, and Dustin and Steve (and Robin) are once again tasked with doing their part to save the world.

Obviously saving the world is incredibly serious business. But Stranger Things of course is willing to frequently take time out from its dramatic – and in season 4, horrifying – storylines for a little comic relief. Dustin and Steve may indeed be the funniest pair on the show, and one of their more amusing and ultimately heartwarming exchanges has actually inspired a LEGO version, which can be seen in the space below (via dt98films):

Steve threatening to make Dustin’s teeth fall back out of course is a callback to earlier Stranger Things seasons when Dustin indeed had no front teeth thanks to a real-life condition suffered by the actor Matarazzo. Obviously Steve took things too far by going there with his friend, and of course Dustin was legitimately bothered by his over-the-line crack. But it’s a measure of how solid Dustin and Steve’s friendship is that Steve immediately acknowledged it wasn’t cool to make that particular joke.

The scene in question, now immortalized in LEGO form, indeed provides a neat little encapsulation of what makes Dustin and Steve such a fun pair on Stranger Things. They bicker amusingly, the two actors showing off their fun chemistry. But when one of them steps over the line, the immediate pullback shows that beneath the bickering is genuine love. It remains to be seen of course how things play out for Dustin and Steve as the horror of Vecna continues to emerge in the as-yet-unreleased final two episodes of Stranger Things season 4. But hopefully their hilarious and heartwarming bromance will go on for a long time to come, perhaps even in spinoff form.
