Stranger Things' Caleb McLaughlin is opening up about season 4 and he says the storylines are going to be insane. Stranger Things is a Netflix original series that debuted in 2016. The first three seasons were a major hit on the streaming service, but the Covid-19 pandemic threw a wrench in season 4's plan. Filming was delayed during the pandemic and the release date is still unknown. However, the delay may actually benefit the show in that it has given the crew more time to prepare for the fourth season.

Many of the cast and crew have dropped hints about Stranger Things season 4 being its biggest season yet. David Harbour, who portrays Jim Hopper in the series, is excited to see Hopper's story arc come to fulfillment in the 4th season. His character's resurrection and the Russian prison component, promise a unique, possibly even international, storyline. While the cast is obviously sworn to secrecy, that hasn't stopped several of them, including Sadie Sink, Maya Hawke, and Harbour from teasing that season 4 will be worth the wait and will feature the highest stakes yet. Now, another cast member is opening up about his own perspective on the fourth season.

In interview with Complex, McLaughlin revealed that Stranger Things' season 4 will feature some insane storylines. McLaughlin expressed his excitement for viewers to watch the fourth season, explaining that they've been filming for the past two years now because of the pandemic. However, he promised that season 4 will be unlike any of the seasons thus far, describing "insane" storylines and hinting at some surprises. Check out his statement below:

I’m excited for people to see the season. We’ve been filming it right now for the past year and a half, two years because of COVID. I’m really excited for everyone to see the season. It’s definitely different from the last couple of seasons. Storylines are insane. It’s going to be really exciting to see what people think about this. While I’m talking about this, I’m thinking about what we’ve been filming and I’m just like, “Wow. No one knows what is to come. It’s insane."

McLaughlin echoes the thoughts of many of his castmates, but his emphasis on the unknown is very intriguing. Stranger Things' Hopper resurrection has already been confirmed and we know that season 4 will take us outside of Hawkins, leaving us to question what the remaining surprises might be. What is clear from McLaughlin's statement is that Stranger Things might be diverging into new territory for its fourth season and it supports expectations that season 4 might touch on the darker aspects of the series and the characters' pasts and secrets.

Overall, Stranger Things has something big planned for season 4, as teased by McLaughlin. While Stranger Things' season 4 trailer hint at exploring Eleven's past, and Harbour has teased a big season for Hopper, there are still many unknowns. As the series has continued, the mystery surrounding Hawkins has only grown and left viewers puzzled regarding the history of Hawkins lab and the nature of their experiments. Meanwhile, season 3 left on a cliffhanger with Hopper in a Russian prison, the Byers and Eleven moving away from Hawkins, and the rest of the gang remaining behind. There is surely some cataclysmic event necessary to bring all of these characters back together despite the distance, but what event that might be remains to be seen. For now, we appreciate the cast taking the time to share their hints and perspectives on Stranger Things season 4 as we await the release date.
