Stranger Things season 2 will please fans of the first season's cast by bringing nearly everyone back. From the Hawkins Middle A/V Club to the town's helpful adults to Eleven, just about everyone from season 1 has an expanded role. But alongside the established characters, a number of new faces arrived in season 2. Of course, most of them probably look familiar.
Whether it's from small genre roles or '80s classics like Goonies and Aliens which the Duffer Brother were homaging, the new cast gets a chance to shine right alongside the old. Here's a rundown of where you've seen the show's newest characters before.
Max & Billy
Sadie Sink – Max The new girl at school quickly makes an impression of the A/V Club as the mysterious MADMAX. Before Sadie Sink's turn on Stranger Things, she was best known for a recurring role on TV series American Odyssey. She also had a bit part in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and featured in this year's Glass Castle.
Dacre Montgomery – Billy Max's violent step-brother Billy is rocking the The Lost Boys vibe, but Dacre Montgomery is best known for other nostalgia fare, as Red Ranger Jason in this year's Power Rangers reboot.
Bob & Dr. Owen
Sean Astin – Bob Newby Former high school nerd and lovable tech geek Bob Newby had a surprisingly large role in Stranger Things season 2, likely due to Sean Astin's place in so much of genre history. With a career stretching back to the early '80s, he's best known as Mikey from Goonies and Sam from Lord of the Rings.
Paul Reiser – Dr. Owen Paul Reiser is another familiar genre stalwart thanks to his villainous role in Aliens. He's perhaps best known for his more affable comedic work, namely the TV series Mad About You.
008 & Her Gang
Linnea Berthelsen – 008/Kali/Roman Despite the large role Eleven's 'sister' plays in Stranger Things's new season, Linnea Berthelsen is a relative newcomer. She's had a couple of roles in some shorts and featured in one episode of the mini series The Desert earlier this year.
James Landry Hébert – Axel The mohawk-rocking hot head known as Axel is just one of many small genre parts James Landry Hébert has played, including a role in Gangster Squad and stints on Westworld, Agent Carter, the Taken TV series.
Kai Greene – Funshine The warrior with the heart of golf, Funshine is only Kai Greene's second role, as he's best known for his bodybuilding career which has been showcased in multiple documentaries.
Gabrielle Maiden – Mick Playing getaway driver Mick in Kali's gang, Gabrielle Maiden is best known for roles in the shows I Love Dick, Sexless, and Chef Julian.
Anna Jacoby-Heron – Dottie Channeling Madonna and Cyndi Lauper, Anna Jacoby-Heron's role as Dottie follows parts in Relationship Status and Finding Carter.
Pruitt Taylor Vince – Ray Not part of Kali's gang, but rather one of their targets, Pruitt Taylor Vince plays the shock-treatment nurse Ray. He's been in films like Monster and Natural Born Killers and has had recurring roles on True Blood, The Mentalist, and Heroes Reborn.
Family & Friends
Brett Gelman – Murray Bauman Best known as a comedian, Brett Gelman's Murray Bauman certainly brings the actor's usual manic sleaze to the show. He's also appeared in Love, Twin Peaks, and Blunt Talk, along with small roles in The Others Guys and 30 Minutes or Less.
Priah Ferguson – Erica Sinclair Lucas' scene-stealing little sister Erica is played by Priah Ferguson, who's had bit parts in in Atlanta, Mercy Street, and Daytime Divas.
Catherine Curtin – Claudia Henderson We finally meet Dustin's mom Claudia, played by Catherine Curtin of Insecure and Orange is the New Black fame. She also had a small role on Mindhunters.
Aaron Munoz – Mr. Holland Not appearing in season 1, Mr. Holland finally arrives for the uncomfortable dinner in the first episode. Played by Aaron Munoz, the actor is known for a two-episode stint on The Walking Dead plus a handful of short films.
