Stranger Things is one of the most popular shows on Netflix, garnering a huge and loyal following since its inception. Season 1 introduced fans to the terrifying and menacing Demogorgon, a monster from another dimension whose predatory nature terrorized much of Hawkins.

But despite spending an entire season tracking down the beast, there are still some questions fans had regarding the origin and nature of the beast. With that, here are 10 unanswered questions we still have about the Demogorgon from Stranger Things.

Where is the Demogorgon From?

Though the monster spawned in and out of the Upside Down, the actual origin of the creature is unknown. The Hawkins Lab found it while experimenting with Eleven, a discovery by pure accident. The creature resided in the Upside Down and brought those it captured to it, similar to how the Xenomorph from the Alien series held its prey hostage.

Season 4 may be on the way with the Soviet theme at the forefront, but it'd be nice for some clarification and closure on the origin of the beast.

Is there more than one?

The Demogorgon acted alone in Season 1 but featured some variants of itself in Season 2. Though they aren't exactly the same creature, the two share similar traits and characteristics most notably their facial features and impulsive, violent behavior.

But looking strictly at the Demogorgon, it's unknown if there are more than one. If these creatures are birthed from eggs than its likely (though not confirmed) there are more.

Can they communicate in any way?

Elevin kills Demogorgon with her powers inside school season 1

The only lines uttered by the Demogorgon were terrifying roars and screams, fitting considering its animalistic behavior. However, it'd be interesting to know if they can communicate in any way.

Communication would then lead to the assumption that there are more than one, because who else would it talk to, itself? It gets lonely in the Upside Down, maybe the Demogorgon wants to catch up with some coffee or discuss last night's game, who knows.

Where was it born?

Back to the question of origin, where was the Demogorgon born? Asking where it's from doesn't necessarily answer where it was born. The eggs are seen in season 1 lead fans to speculate the Demogorgon is born in the Upside Down, though it's not confirmed.

The answer could very well lie in the Hawkins Laboratory files or it may be answered in the upcoming season by the Soviet Union.

Is it male or female?

This may not seem too important, but in the long run, it is. If the Demogorgon is a female then it's likely there are more considering the presence of the eggs in the Upside Down. Season 4 could introduce a new monster or it could revisit the original foe and answer some basic questions regarding the Demogorgon's sexual identity.

Fans can only wait to see if the new Season will clear up some confusion about the monster.

Does it hunt and see by sound?

Looking at the facial features of the Demogorgon, one can tell by the lack of eyes the monster is likely to rely on smell and sound to hunt. However, it's never confirmed whether it relies on one over the other.

Judging by the circumference of the jaw occupying a majority of the face, it's likely the monster is unable to rely on sight at all. But how does it navigate the Upside Down so well? A labyrinth of tight turns is likely to be impossible to navigate without sight, but who knows, anything is possible it the world of Stranger Things.

How is it able to pass through dimensions?

The Demogorgon isn't just a mindless beast with a lust for violence, but rather one with some sort of intelligence given its ability to pass through dimensions. But how is the monster able to do so? All fans know is the when the Demogorgon does travel between dimensions, the light sources (street lights) in an area become dim.

Does the flow of electricity have something to do with traveling between dimensions? Or maybe Doc Brown and Marty McFly might have the answer, how many gigawatts does it take to travel between dimensions?

Was it under the control of the mind flayer?

The Mind Flayer was one of the most terrifying abominations in Stranger Things, making the Demogorgon look like Disney. However, the two were seen as two separate entities, one independent from the other.

However, was the Demogorgon under control of the Mind Flayer? Given the mothership-like persona, the monster had it's possible the Demogorgon operated based on the bidding of the Mind Flayer. Just like Yoda said, always two there are, no more, no less, a master and an apprentice (minus the lightsabers of course).

Does it have regenerative health?

Sometimes the monsters just don't die, the Demogorgon is no exception. Even with the fire trap, the monster was able to walk away and return in full form. This begs the question; does the Demogorgon have regenerative health?

If so, was the Hawkins Lab trying to capture the monster to obtain its abilities. It makes sense considering The Wolverine was held captive for similar reasons. Who knows, maybe it's all about saving the human race.

Why Will?

Will fell victim to the clutches of the Demogorgon, but why him? It could have been a case of wrong place wrong time, but it seems like Will was chosen out of all of the members of his friend group. He was left alone on his way home, and it seemed like he was cornered because of it.
