After Jim Hopper supposedly died at the end of season three, fans were curious about what would become of the rest of the cast in the lead-up to the two-part season four of Stranger Things.
It was hard for the audience at first to decide whether or not Jim Hopper was going to play a significant role in the fight against the Upside Down and the forces that came out of it. However, as the story progressed, it became clear that Hopper was an extraordinary and complex character. Some fans couldn't make sense of Hopper's storyline in season 4, but he had a pretty interesting storyline throughout the rest of the series. It was frustrating to see Joyce trying so hard to convince Hopper that Will was still alive and something otherworldly was going on, and for him to believe she was just a grieving, distraught mother.
However, when the audience gets to know Jim Hopper better, it becomes apparent that he is having a hard time believing Joyce because he was a grieving parent once, too. After he did everything he could do to revive Will in the Upside Down, it was hard not to love his caring and determined nature.

Hopper had taken part in some of the best fights in Stranger Things, but he has another side to him besides stoic determination. When he becomes a guardian to Eleven, he isn't quite sure where the line is when it comes to parenting her without being her actual parent.
He wants to connect with Eleven so they can both understand where they're coming from, but he's unfamiliar with the world of teenagers. This meme references Hopper's attempts to be an understanding person that is at odds with his overprotective personality. He tries to tell the teenagers that they must keep the door open three inches but struggles to get them to obey.
Hopper Vs. Mike

This meme may reference the last scenario in which he tries to create boundaries between Mike and Eleven, but it also touches upon another important part of his personality. Jim Hopper is a lot of things and one of those is impulsive.
He cares about Mike, but he is responsible for El and cares for her as a father would. When Mike snuffs his attempts to create some distance between the two teenagers, he turns to Joyce who offers him some advice on how to calmly talk to the two. Instead, his emotions get the better of him and he ends up creating a crazy story to get Mike away from El so that he can intimidate the young man. Though it may have seemed a little harsh, Hopper is clearly not against tough love.
The Magnets, Hopper!

After the epic events of the first couple of seasons, Hopper wants to believe that everything in Hawkins is finally getting back to normal life. This meme references Joyce's determination to prove something is going wrong when magnets start losing their magnetism, but Hopper seems to think Joyce is being over-paranoid and avoiding real-life issues.
However, Hopper is unconcerned about Joyce's obsession with her magnets because she is also ignoring his attempts to grow closer to her. Jopper is one of the most popular ships in Strangers Things, fans understand Hopper's annoyance with Joyce's seemingly unrealistic concerns.

Hopper has a temper. One of his most prominent characteristics is growing impatient and losing his cool when there are dire circumstances. He also has a history of growing irritated when he thinks he is right and someone is trying to prove otherwise.
This meme references the circumstance in which Hopper and Joyce kidnap one of the Russian scientists, Alexei, and try to make him comfortable to get information from him. When Alexei overreacts about getting a strawberry slushie instead of a cherry, Hopper freaks out, taking his frustration out on the scientist. While it seems like a small thing to get angry about, he is at his breaking point and loses his temper.

This meme references how good of a dad Hopper really is. While he struggles to find his place as a father figure to El, it's clear there are no limits to what he would do for his daughter. The situation between Mike, Eleven, and Hopper is one of the most iconic storylines not only because it's hilarious, but it shows how endearing Jim is as a dad.
Eleven and Hopper are two characters likely to survive through season 5. Not only would giving Hopper another heroic death seem redundant, but El's prominent role in the storyline would be ruined if they killed her off before she got a happy ending. It would be satisfying to see El and Hopper end off with peaceful family life.
No One Would Believe It

Though some fans were confused about Hopper's storyline in season 4, many were also excited at the confirmation that Jim Hopper was indeed still alive after season 3 left it uncertain. Heroic endings are great, but there was so much left unfinished in Hopper's story that fans weren't satisfied seeing him die as a martyr.
When the Russians are first reintroduced at the post-credit end of season 3 and they mention "the American" it was hard for fans not to jump to conclusions and assume it's Hopper. Though there were other possible Americans from the Hawkins Lab, like Dr. Brenner, it would have been disappointing to learn after that scene that it wasn't Jim Hopper.
