Kevin Smith begrudgingly admitted that he hasn't watched any of the wildly popular Netflix series, Stranger Things. Excitement is building for the upcoming Stranger Things season 4 with new trailers and theories about the Duffer Brothers' nostalgic fright-scape. The Duffer Brothers, have announced that the show series will conclude with season 5, hopefully bringing a satisfying ending to the internet's favorite RPG teammates.

Smith, who became a cinema darling after writing, directing and co-staring in 1994's Clerks, has since created his View Askewniverse with more movies like Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and Clerks II to expand on the stories and characters' Quick Stop saga. He now hosts the podcast Fatman Beyond with co-host Marc Bernardin where the two deep dive into their favorite fictional universes. Smith has also hinted that a Clerks III trailer will be arriving soon.

As reported by ComicBook, in a recent episode of Fatman Beyond, Bernardin and Smith arrived at the topic of Stranger Things. When asked what he thought of the series, Smith started to panic a little, explaining in his signature, expletive-filled way how embarrassed he was that he hadn't watched any of the show yet. Being known as a kind of elder voice when it comes to nostalgic cinema and cult followings, Smith knew much of his fandom would be surprised by his admission. Read his full quote below:

"Alright, f-cking, here we go, it's where the internet is gonna be like, 'You piece of f-cking sh-t ... I have never seen a single episode of Stranger Things. Don't applaud, I'm not saying like, 'And that makes me metal.' The rocket took off and then it felt like it was too late to f-cking get on when everybody was like, 'This show is f-cking brilliant.' And I haven't gotten around to it. I honestly thought, during the pandemic, that we would do a deep dive and stuff, but so many other great shows came out. So I love, you know, what I know about it and the things I've seen, the trailers and pieces of the show and whatnot, but I've not ..."

Smith was convinced that fans would fry him for thinking that he doesn't like the show. Bernardin pointed out that not having seen the show isn't nearly as bad as watching it and then not liking it, considering its devoted following and their calls for Stranger Things spinoffs. Smith wasn't convinced, as he was recently skewered online for his thoughts on the Oscar-worthiness of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Smith also expressed how much he enjoys David Harbour's acting and comedic chops from other content he's seen him in. Harbour plays Hawkins Police Chief Jim Hopper in the Netflix series and became a fan favorite after the season 1 debut. When season 3 ended, Hopper was feared dead until a mid-credits scene gave a hint otherwise.

The trailers for Stranger Things season 4 have teased more and more information about the Hawkins crew and where everyone ended up since the season 3 finale. Hopper is clearly alive, wielding a flame-thrower inside a Russian prison cell. Eleven (Millie Bobbie Brown) has moved to California with Will (Noah Schnapp) and the rest of the Byers family. Mike (Finn Wolfhard) and the rest of Stranger Things' lovable D&D-playing crew are seen exploring the creepy Creel house where an unspeakable crime took place in the 1950s. Tying together all the new clues in the Stranger Things trailers is the recurring image of an old grandfather clock. Mike and the crew see the clock in the attic of the now abandoned Creel house. A version of the clock is also seen, covered in ancient growth, inside the Upside Down in one of the season 4 posters. Some fan theories suggest that teleportation or time travel are being hinted at by the recurring clock theme, so it'll be interesting to see if those theories turn out to be true when Part 1 of the final season releases.
