While Stranger Things star David Harbour is sad to see the show go, he's starting to feel like it's time. The story of the Hellfire Club has been a compelling one, especially as they stumble across every supernatural mystery in Hawkins. Between superpowered teenagers, mysterious disappearances, and otherworldly dimensions, Stranger Things has shown off a wide array of wild sights and situations.

Stranger Things season 5 will be the show's swan song. After premiering in 2016, Stranger Things will see David Harbour (Jim Hopper) saying goodbye to the franchise. Yet, despite having mixed feelings, he revealed to DiscussingFilm that he's more than ready to see the show end. Check out his quote below:

"What’s funny is when I started the show, I never ever wanted it to end. That’s why I love the show. I think it’s a great show, even if I wasn’t in it. Now we’re almost nine years from filming the first season, and I think it is time for it to end. But it is, of course, very bittersweet. You know, there’s a sadness there. But also, we’ve all grown up. It is time for us to leave that nest and try other things and different projects. And to let the Duffer Brothers try different things as well. I mean, those guys are so talented. I want to see what they come up with next. So it is bittersweet, but it’s definitely time."

Will The Stranger Things Universe Continue?

The original show may be at an end, but that doesn't mean the Stranger Things universe is over. Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer have been hard at work on a spin-off series for the show. While they haven't revealed many details, there are several possible Stranger Things spin-offs they can work through, even if they abandon Hawkins entirely.

The Duffers have already promised that the new show won't have anything to do with the characters of the original, meaning that there could be a new set of heroes facing off against the Upside Down. When the show will be released remains to be seen, though season 5 could easily begin to tease the new project. Even so, there will likely be another few years before the spin-off is officially released.

As for the original show, the characters will have the opportunity to bow out and head off for the sunset. Everything known about Stranger Things season 5 indicates that the final season will be absolutely massive, potentially leading to another split season. With Stranger Things coming to an end, the town of Hawkins may finally be able to find some peace, even if all the characters don't make it through.
