The return of Stranger Things with season 4 has certainly been welcome, with Volume 2 set for a July 1 release. Fans are currently analyzing the characters’ personalities since the show’s return has caused a surge of interest in everyone involved in the horror-fantasy series.

The CW’s Supernatural has long been a fan favorite show as well, which is experiencing its own revival in interest through the announcement of The Winchesters spin-off. With both fantasy shows being so beloved, it’s interesting to see the similarities between the characters. From charismatic characters like Dean Winchester and Steve Harrington to inherently powerful heroes like Eleven and Sam Winchester, it’s worth taking a deeper look into this area.

Joyce Byers: Jody Mills

Joyce and Jody are motherly figures who will do anything to keep their loved ones safe or to save them. Joyce demonstrated this best when she went to Russia to get Hopper back, while Jody did the same for Sam and Dean when she got them back from The Bad Place realm.

The two women have taken in children that aren’t their own either and loved them all the same. Joyce and Jody have been out of their element fighting monsters, but have remained brave the whole time. They tend to hide their fears in order to reassure their loved ones that things will be okay.

Lucas Sinclair: Mick Davies

Lucas in Stranger Things 4 was someone who went along with people he didn’t really like. He initially stood by and watched his new gang beat up innocent kids over what they felt was right until Lucas decided to ditch them. Mick Davies was similarly part of the Men of Letters, whom he remained with reluctantly.

Like Lucas, Mick watched the likes of Arthur Ketch kill innocent people as part of the Men of Letters’ ideology; he was eventually killed when he tried to warn Sam and Dean. Luckily for Lucas, he successfully warned Dustin to become part of his former group once more.

Max Mayfield: Claire Novak

Max and Claire are fierce, opinionated teenagers who don’t follow anybody’s orders. They come from broken families and don’t trust people in general. Max became friends with the group only after helping them fight the Demogorgons, while Claire also befriended Sam, Dean, and Castiel once they helped her combat the supernatural.

The lack of a father figure in Max’s life hit her hard, making it a touchy topic for her. Claire lost her father because of Castiel’s intervention and continued to pinpoint it as the moment her life irreparably broke. The two eventually found solace in their friends, not that they like voicing it out.

Nancy Wheeler: Jo Harvelle

Jo was also denied from becoming a hunter to keep her safe even though she had fought and overcome demons before. The characters generally have to work hard to have their accomplishments recognized.

Nancy has been unsure of her feelings for Steve and Jonathan, carrying regrets over how things turned out with them. Jo carried a torch for Dean and was regretful for not making her love for him known until it was too late. The pair steer toward the introspective side of things to be quieter in personality than most.

Mike Wheeler: Castiel

There were many times Supernatural fans felt bad for Castiel, mainly for the way he pined after Dean. Mike has also felt this way toward Eleven, having had difficulties understanding her but loving her all the same. The two characters generally have a clueless attitude and are afraid to speak up.

Castiel and Mike are far from cowards, though, as the pair go out of their way to fight their friends, even if it means rebelling against powerful enemies and authority figures. However, the two are usually the butt of their friends’ jokes due to their meek nature.

Will Byers: Jack Kline

Supernatural is considered among the best fantasy TV shows, going as far as to even have the son of Lucifer become a lovable member of the cast. Jack’s innocent personality and kindhearted attitude made him impossible to dislike, which is how many see Will in Stranger Things.

Will has had a torrid time in the series, having been possessed by the Demogorgon and ignored by his friends. Yet, he tries to keep a positive attitude, remaining the purest member of the group. Jack was also abandoned by Sam and Dean after he accidentally killed Mary, for which he showed great remorse.

Dustin Henderson: Charlie Bradbury

There are plenty of pop culture references to be found in Stranger Things, with Dustin responsible for quite a fair few. Charlie was the person who brought this aspect to Supernatural, regularly annoying Sam and Dean with quotes from geek culture shows and movies.

Charlie and Dustin are the brains of their teams, coming up with plans and being the most tech-savvy. They are the heart of the friend group as well, tying everyone together to become the person without whom the others would lose their way. Out of the characters in their shows, Charlie and Dustin are unapologetic about their likes and dislikes.

Jim Hopper: Bobby Singer

Hopper and Bobby are the father figures in Stranger Things, whom the characters see as their safe place. They are confidantes to the likes of Joyce, Sam, and Dean, while keeping on a tough demeanor so that their loved ones can feel like they can be vulnerable around them.

Hopper wasn’t Eleven’s biological father but loved her all the same, which is how Bobby was toward Sam and Dean, becoming their second father after John. The two characters carry tortured pasts, with Hopper losing his daughter while Bobby lost his wife.

Steve Harrington: Dean Winchester

There are certain pairings that fans consider the best bromance on TV, with Steve and Dean part of them. Dean’s dynamic with Sam was the heart of Supernatural, while Steve and Dustin’s double act has been a fan favorite in Stranger Things. Dean and Steve also share many notable character traits.

The pair develop from brash and cocky guys to caring and emotionally sensitive men. They are a hit with the ladies and love to flaunt this fact, and the two are also the designated muscle for their groups. Dean and Steve are generally seen as the most popular characters to come out of the shows as well.

Eleven: Sam Winchester

Eleven and Sam are characters with mysterious powers who feel like outsiders. They are reserved personalities with sad childhoods and rely on the people around them to bring happiness into their lives. The pair can also be seen as the main protagonists of the series around whom the story revolves.

Eleven and Sam were also bullied at school for being different than others, trying hard to fit in with normal people. The pair’s powers are similar, as they rely on telekinesis and a degree of mental projection, with the characters going through an identity crisis when they lost their abilities.
