Warning: Spoilers for Stranger Things season 4, volume 1!

Stranger Things season 4 teases suggest volume 2 will copy a Billy Hargrove mindscape trick seen in season 3, but this time, it will be through Max Mayfield's memories. Netflix has released a new Stranger Things season 4 volume 2 trailer, and it will likely be the final footage seen before the finale two episodes are released. Though volume 2 will be shorter than the first set of episodes to make up volume 2, the chapters will be supersized, coming in at around four hours of new content.

The two-minute trailer for Stranger Things season 4, volume 2 gives a look at what's next for every major storyline. The group in Hawkins is preparing for battle, though their hope of defeating Vecna seems to be dwindling. Will's worry also seems to be getting the best of him as he looks to his older brother, Jonathan, for comfort. Meanwhile, Hopper, Joyce, and Murray must escape the Russian prison while evading a very angry Demogorgon. There's also Eleven, who is now aware of Henry Creel's origins as "001" and his transformation into Vecna. Despite knowing that she needs to return to her friends in Hawkins, the Army seems to have tracked her down in Nevada.

While the latest Stranger Things season 4 trailer features several intriguing teases, there's one sequence reminiscent of a moment from Stranger Things season 3. Before that installment debuted in July 2019, trailers teased Eleven standing on a beach as a storm with red lightning approached, suggesting something from the Upside Down was threatening. In reality, Eleven used her powers to tap into Billy's mindscape using the void, visiting his California memories that grew darker as Eleven walked into the storm. Stranger Things season 4 seems to be repeating this Billy moment by showing something similar at the 1:28 mark of the trailer. The quick scene shows what looks to be Eleven standing on a bridge as darkened clouds with red lightning loom nearby. Though it could be Hawkins, it may also be a repeat of the season 3 trailer trick, showing Eleven using her mindscape powers but through Max's memories this time.

Why Eleven Is On The Bridge & Back In The Void

ST 4 Eleven Against Upside Down

When Eleven tapped into Billy's memories through the void in Stranger Things season 3, they were happy moments featuring Billy and his mom. Young Billy was at the beach surfing as his mother cheered him on. However, as Eleven kept exploring, the memories turned negative, showing Billy's abusive father, his mom abandoning him, and his transition into a bully. The clue to Max's memories explored in Stranger Things season 4 stems from the fact that a barefoot Eleven is watching over a group of skateboarders from the bridge. Max, of course, is an avid skateboarder. On the left side of the bridge, there are also decorations and DJ equipment from what looks to be from season 2's Snow Ball school dance, which was an important moment for Max and her relationship with Lucas. The scene could be a blend of Max's memories as something darker is growing nearby.

The Stranger Things season 4, volume 2 trailer shows that Max remains on the frontlines in the fight against Vecna even though she was already one of his victims. Perhaps Max finds herself in trouble again, and Eleven uses her powers with the void to either find Max or gather some sort of insight from her memories to find her. There's also a chance Max's successful escape from Vecna holds clues to how to break into Vecna's mindscape, so Eleven is trying to hack into that connection through her best friend. It would be fitting to see Max somehow help Eleven get an advantage over Vecna considering her memories with Eleven helped save her from death in volume 1. Whatever volume 2 has in store, more answers will come to light when Stranger Things season 4 concludes with its final two episodes.
