Production of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 has been delayed because of the writer's strike. Strange New Worlds season 2 is set to premiere on Thursday, June 15, on Paramount+. The cast and crew were scheduled to begin production on Strange New Worlds season 3 on May 2nd in Toronto. However, the Writer's Guild of America (WGA) has gone on strike to fight for better terms for its members over issues such as streaming residuals and the threat of A.I. replacing writers. This has impacted not only Strange New Worlds season 3's production but the filming of other Star Trek series as well.As reported by TrekCentral, Strange New Worlds season 3's production halted on May 2nd, the same day the strike began. On Twitter, Strange New Worlds actor Melissa Navia, who plays Lt. Erica Ortegas, Tweeted her support of the writers in response to a Tweet by Bill Wolkoff, one of Strange New Worlds' writers on the picket line. Check out the Tweets below:

Michelle Yeoh, David Cronenberg, and Rebecca Romijn in Star Trek

Strange New Worlds season 3 completed production in 2022, so the next 10 episodes will stream on Paramount+ as scheduled starting June 15th. Star Trek: Lower Decks season 4's scripts were locked months ago and production on that series should continue so that the hit animated comedy can make its late summer premiere. Star Trek's two animated shows, the other being Star Trek: Prodigy, are covered by The Animation Guild (TAG) contracts, so production on those series can continue, although the same issues facing the WGA will eventually come to bear with TAG, the Screen Actor's Guild (SAG), and the Director's Guild of America (DGA).

TrekMovie.com reports that reshoots on Star Trek: Discovery season 5's finale, which will add scenes to make the final episode a proper series finale, could continue in Toronto as the scripts should be locked. Meanwhile, production on the newly announced Star Trek projects, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy and Star Trek: Section 31 starring Academy Award-winner Michelle Yeoh, are also affected by the WGA strike. Starfleet Academy writer Tawny Newsome, who stars as Ensign Beckett Mariner on Lower Decks, has joined her fellow writers on the picket line. Section 31's production was scheduled to start later this year, but hopefully, by then, the strike will be over. The WGA strike slowing down the next wave of Star Trek projects could also impact when and whether Star Trek: Picard's proposed continuation series, Star Trek: Legacy, might get a green light from Paramount+.
