One of Rainbow Island's rarest resources in Slime Rancher 2 is the Strange Diamond. This crafting material can be sold for a significant profit of Newbucks or used in the Fabricator for late-game Upgrades. Accordingly, as players reach the end of their Early Access experience of Slime Rancher 2, they will discover that they need this extremely scarce resource of Rainbow Island to get the final Upgrades for their equipment.

However, unlike Radiant Ore or Jellystone, Strange Diamond does not have a fixed respawn rate in Slime Rancher 2. Typically, if players use their Harvester to collect resources from renewable nodes, they can revisit the node after a few in-game days to gather more of the same material. On the other hand, Strange Diamond does have several fixed spawn locations like other nodes, but the times at which it respawns are random, including the nodes' locations. As a result, finding Strange Diamonds out in the world is challenging and highly dependent on RNG. It is possible to go for days without spotting any diamonds but suddenly encounter several mineral nodes within an hour or two.

Strange Diamonds usually appear near or inside caves and tunnels around Rainbow Island's map. These randomized locations in Slime Rancher 2 are often in the Ember Valley or Starlight Strand. For instance, sometimes the diamonds' glittering nodes are out in the open near a tunnel's entrance, and other times they might only appear in well-hidden underground caverns.

Finding Strange Diamonds In Slime Rancher 2

Finding a Strange Diamond in the Cave with the Boom Gordo Slime in Slime Rancher 2

Of course, Trophy Tom's discoveries do not mean that Strange Diamonds cannot appear in other locations in Slime Rancher 2, such as atop mountains or along the elevated shelves of ridges. Many community members have found these diamonds in different spots, making it tricky to pinpoint where exactly the resource will spawn the most or the least.

Conversely, there is one location in Slime Rancher 2 where a single Strange Diamond is guaranteed to spawn once every playthrough. This spot is the cave blocked by the Boom Gordo of the Ember Valley. To pop this Gordo, players must feed it at least 50 Hen Hens or Roostros. Alternatively, if fans use Briar Hens, only 25 are needed. Once removed, the Gordo will expose a small cavern with two Treasure Pods. One pod contains a Blueprint, while the other grants a Strange Diamond. Like all Treasure Pods, these containers can only be looted once, meaning players can not get another diamond after opening it once in Slime Rancher 2.
