There are many creatures that players will need to keep an eye out for in Stranded Deep. These animals range from poisonous snakes that kill players slowly to great white sharks that will attack swimming survivors when they least suspect it. Being stranded in the middle of the ocean would be bad enough with the limited amount of drinkable water and food, but these creatures force players to wonder what lurks in the ocean waiting to tear them to shreds.

Players will need to be able to quickly tell at a glance if the animals they see are dangerous or not. This can be a difficult feat to accomplish in the heat of the moment sometimes. This guide is here to show players which wild animals they should be most concerned about while exploring remote islands or the ocean.

Stranded Deep: Crabs

Stranded Deep Crab

Crabs are most likely the first animals that players will encounter during Stranded Deep. They are perfect early game sources of food and are very passive creatures. Players don't have to worry about too much from them, but they will attack if provoked or stepped on. They don't cause very much damage, so their attacks can mostly be ignored. Any crab that is killed will respawn after three in-game days.

Stranded Deep: Night Snake

Stranded Deep Night Snake

Night Snakes will be found on islands while exploring, and players who don't avoid them will find themselves in a lot of trouble. Snakes will almost always try to run away from players, but those that are cornered or provoked in any way will lash out. They are difficult to see with their natural camouflage, so it is recommended for players to keep their eyes on the ground while exploring. If bitten the Night Snake will poison players.

Stranded Deep: Lion Fish

Stranded Deep Lion Fish

Lion Fish will not go out of their way to attack players that they encounter, and much prefer to avoid players in their path. Those who accidentally swim into one will become poisoned. Even if the creature is killed it will still be able to poison players who step on it without skinning it first.

Stranded Deep: Sea Snake

Stranded Deep Sea Snake

Sea Snakes aren't as aggressive as their land-living brothers, but they can ruin a player's day just the same. Their bite won't cause any damage, and they will never pursue the player directly. Players will have to accidentally run into one while swimming. Instead of taking damage, they will just gain the poison effect.

Stranded Deep: Sea Urchins

Stranded Deep Sea Urchin

Sea Urchins are the bane of any underwater explorers' existence. They will be found in both shipwrecks and the ocean floor. This is another creature that won't cause any damage to the player but will cause them to become poisoned. The worst aspect of Sea Urchins though is the fact that they are very difficult to see while underwater, so it is very easy to become poisoned without ever knowing where it came from. These creatures are unable to be killed.

Stranded Deep: Crown of Thorns Starfish

Stranded Deep Crown of Thorns

Players will usually find these poisonous starfish in very shallow waters or on the rocks near beaches. They operate much in the same way that Sea Urchins do, but they are very vibrantly colored. This makes them easy to spot and avoid if players are paying attention. Players won't be able to get rid of or kill these creatures in any way.

Stranded Deep: Whales

Stranded Deep Whales

Players will occasionally encounter massive whales in the water near them. They are very gentle creatures that will perform dives and tail splashes for a few moments before swimming away. They won't cause any damage to the player, but they can quickly and easily destroy or capsize rafts. This could potentially strand players in the middle of the ocean.

Stranded Deep: Tiger and Hammerhead Sharks

Stranded Deep Tiger Shark

Even though these sharks look different, they operate exactly the same way during gameplay. They are naturally very curious and aggressive. The sharks will circle players from a distance, but will usually only attack players if they are provoked or the player gets too close. Their bite will cause a lot of damage to players, but can also give a bleeding effect. If this isn't treated with bandages then players will slowly bleed out. Additionally, those that try to attack these sharks while on a raft, will find that the sharks will try to break the raft or capsize it.

Stranded Deep: Great White Shark

Stranded Deep Great White

With the exception of the game's bosses, the Great White Shark is the most dangerous creature in Stranded Deep. Great white sharks are actually capable of doing more damage than the first boss of the game, and both have similar behaviors. Those who go up against this shark will need to avoid its bite as they will take 2-300 points of damage and be inflicted with the bleeding effect. Great Whites are also much better at flipping rafts than other sharks, and can even grab players and drag them deep underwater to try and drown them. Players should avoid Great Whites at all costs unless they are prepared to fight.
