Here's why "It's Over Isn't It" is Steven Universe's most heartbreaking song. Steven Universe debuted in 2013 on Cartoon Network and follows the titular character, a boy being raised by an alien race dubbed the Crystal Gems. The show was created by Rebecca Sugar (Adventure Time) and is a delightful mix of comedy, action and great characters. Steven himself is a half-gem and learns how to use his powers as the series progresses so he can defend his home Beach City.

Steven Universe has been acclaimed for its writing, animation and musical numbers, and Steven Universe: The Movie arrived on Cartoon Network in 2019. The movie followed 16-year old Steven as he's forced to battle an evil Gem that arrives on Earth and like the main show it received great reviews. The series is set to come to an end with the forthcoming Steven Universe Future, a limited series that will wrap up the story.

Steven Universe also produced some fantastic original songs, including "Do It For Her," "Stronger Than You" and "On The Run." One of the best songs featured on the show - and easily its most heartbreaking - is "It's Over Isn't It." This song was featured in Steven Universe's season 3 episode "Mr Greg," which sees Steven, Greg and Pearl head to Empire City - basically a glitzier version of New York - for a luxury trip. This isn't a great idea on the surface since there's lingering tension between Pearl, Steven's protector, and Greg, Steven's father. This is due to Pearl's love for Steven's deceased mother Rose, who choose Greg over her.

Needless to say, Pearl and Greg don't really get along in "Mr. Greg," which leads to one of Steven Universe's saddest music numbers. "It's Over Isn't It" finds Pearl (voiced by Deedee Magno-Hall) singing about her feelings, especially with the fact Rose chose to be with Greg. What she doesn't realize is that Steven and Greg hear the song too, and the two have an emotional breakthrough by the end of the episode.

"Mr. Greg" is also something of a mini-musical that includes seven songs. This is why it's Rebecca Sugar's favorite episode of Steven Universe and its easy to see why. Its got humor, music, and heart, with "It's Over Isn't It" ranking up there as one of the show's most emotional songs. Steven Universe is a series that always wore its heart on its sleeve, and "Mr. Greg" is a prime example of that.
