The Office's Steve Carell recently shared his excitement for his reunion with John Krasinski in their upcoming film Imaginary Friends. The two previously starred on the immensely popular NBC sitcom, which was itself a remake of the hit British television show The Office. Originally created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, the American version featured Carell as Michael Scott, a regional manager within the Dunder Mifflin paper company. Krasinski, meanwhile, played sarcastic salesman Jim Halpert. Through its nine seasons, The Office received 42 Primetime Emmy nominations, winning five times, with Carell also being awarded a Golden Globe for his work on the show.

Although Krasinski is well-known for his role on The Office, he has since made a name for himself behind the camera. The actor has directed the drama-comedy film The Hollars starring Anna Kendrick and Richard Jenkins, as well as both A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place Part II. Krasinski is slated reunite with Carell on his latest directorial effort, Imaginary Friends, a fantastical comedy about a man who can see and talk to other people's imaginary buddies. The film will also star Ryan Reynolds, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Fiona Shaw, and Louis Gossett Jr.

In a recent interview with ET, Carell expresses his excitement for his upcoming reunion with his Office co-star. The actor admitted that he has yet to start filming Imaginary Friends, but is full of anticipation for the opportunity to work with Krasinski again. Read what Carell had to say about the upcoming project below.

"Well, I haven’t started working on the film with him yet, but I can’t wait. I’m anticipating just joy and fun. I mean, he's the best, and he's a great director."

"I’ll put him through his paces, you know? I’ll make him work for it. I might be one of those persnickety actors that doesn’t always agree, or won’t come out of my trailer. You think you hired somebody that is a friend, but you got that wrong!"

John Krasinski and Steve Carell in The Office

The actor's comments are bursting with excitement as Carell clearly cannot wait to work with an old Dunder Mifflin employee once again. Although Carell shares his anticipation about his upcoming experience through his jokes about being a difficult actor, Imaginary Friends will not be the first time Krasinski directs Carell. In 2010, the actor jumped into the director's chair for The Office season 6, episode 15, "Sabre." The episode marked Krasinski's directorial debut for television.

The Office proved to be the breakout show for both Carell and Krasinski, as well as many other stars such as Jenna Fischer, Mindy Kaling, Ed Helms, and Craig Robinson. The series created a bond between a cast and crew that featured many who were still young in their fields, as a good deal of them were attempting to find their way through the film and television industry. Krasinski and Carell's upcoming reunion in their new film Imaginary Friends only shows how far the two have come since their humble beginnings on the NBC sitcom. Knowing that Carell and Krasinski are thrilled to reunite behind the camera will only make viewing the movie more enjoyable for those who knew them back when they were Michael and Jim.
