No video game series in history has pulled in so many different IPs to create an experience quite like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Since the game launched, it's added to its already impressive roster by adding in fighters through two separate Fighters Passes. Now that the Fighters Pass Vol. 2 is currently running through December 2021, the newest DLC fighters coming to Smash Bros. have been revealed as a handful of characters from Minecraft.

The newest characters coming to Smash Bros. Ultimate are Steve, Alex, Zombie, and Enderman. All four characters are from the popular Minecraft series. At this point, it's a bit ambiguous whether all four are fighters, or if Zombie and Enderman are just alternate skins. The reveal trailer primarily focused on Steve and Alex, two human characters who've become Minecraft series mascots. Both Alex and Steve represent the player in Minecraft, as people can choose between the two default skins when starting the game.

Masahiro Sakurai, the creator of the Smash Bros. series, announced the newest fighters in a reveal on YouTube. The Minecraft characters follow Min Min from ARMS as the latest DLC fighters. As expected, Steve and Alex come with a variety of moves inspired by Minecraft. The building and combat features of Minecraft are ever present, whether it's Alex laying explosives down for Banjo and Kazooie, or Steve pulling along Bowser Jr. in a Minecraft cart. From what was shown, the moves are just as zany and fun as someone might expect from a Minecraft and Smash Bros. crossover.

Further details concerning the new Minecraft fighters are teased for a "Sakurai Presents" showcase, which is currently scheduled for October 3rd, 2020, at 10:30 am ET. More information regarding Enderman and Zombie will likely be shared there. However, today's reveal did show more than just the characters. It looks as if several Minecraft-inspired stages are coming to Smash Bros. Ultimate as well. Traditionally, these kinds of new stages in Smash Bros. release with new characters, but the exact number of new Minecraft stages weren't revealed during the presentation on October 1st.

Steve and Alex are technically the second fighters in Smash Bros. Ultimate's Fighters Pass Vol. 2, and the pass is planned on including a total of six new fighters by the end of December 2021. The latest Fighters Pass costs $29.99; however, the Minecraft fighters can be purchased on their own for $4.99. More details on the fighting styles of the Minecraft characters will be revealed on October 3rd.

Thus far, Sakurai and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate have done an excellent job of combining first-party IPs like Min Min from ARMS with third-party characters like Hero from Dragon Quest and Joker from Persona 5. Fans of Minecraft should be excited when Steve, Alex, Zombie, and Enderman finally appear in Smash soon.
