Stephen King and son Owen King's upcoming novel Sleeping Beauties is being developed for TV after the rights were acquired by Anonymous Content. There is no denying that Stephen King is among the most successful living writers in the world. His first published book - Carrie - was the first of 54 novels, with more still on the way. He's also published six non-fiction books, and more than 200 short stories. Many of his novels and short stories have also been adapted to movies, series, made-for-TV-movies, and even plays and musicals. This year will see two movies adapted from his work - IT and The Dark Tower - and three series based on his books and stories are in the works as well - Mr. MercedesThe Mist, and Castle Rock.

Writing is a family affair for the Kings. King's wife Tabitha and sons Joe Hill and Owen King are all published novelists as well. Stephen King and Joe Hill have even collaborated on a few short stories. And now Owen King has written a novel with his father. Sleeping Beauties is slated to be released on September 26th, 2017.

The book may not have been released yet, but the rights have already been purchased for adaption. According to Deadline, production company Anonymous Content has acquired the rights and the company will be working with Stephen and Owen King to adapt Sleeping Beauties into a series.

Set in a women's prison in a small Appalachian town in the near future, Sleeping Beauties tells the story of a curse which affects most of the women in the prison. When they go to sleep, a cocoon encases their bodies. Any attempt to wake the women or to disturb the cocoons turns the women feral and violent. If left alone, the women go to "another place" leaving the men to their own devices. Only one women, Evie, is immune to the strange event, leaving the men around her to consider whether she is the key to saving the others, or the cause of their woe.

There is no word yet on where Sleeping Beauties the series will air, or when it can be expected. However, executive producers Michael Sugar and Ashley Zalta are quite connected to Netflix. Together they are EPs on The OA and the upcoming Netflix series Maniac starring Emma Stone and Jonah Hill. Sugar is also an EP on 13 Reasons Why, so Netflix might be a fair guess as to where Sleeping Beauties will find a home. At this very early stage however, it is just a guess.
