Stephen King has Seen IT: Chapter Two, and he loves it. As difficult as it may be to believe, best-selling author and master of horror Stephen King had already published eighteen novels before writing IT, his classic tale on the manifestations of fear. What’s more, the preceding novels had been major hits as well and included Carrie, The Shining, The Stand, Cujo, The Running Man and Pet Sematary.
King has clearly spent decades elevating and at times downright dominating the genre of horror fiction, providing fans with an impressive creative track record and an almost instinctual ability to find fear in the unlikeliest of places. Some twenty-seven years after King’s It had been adapted into a TV miniseries starring Tim Curry as the nightmare-inducing clown Pennywise, the novel was given the big screen treatment. IT: Chapter One was an international hit and fans have been patiently awaiting the next chapter in the horror saga. With several months to go before the film’s release, and the first trailer arriving in a matter of days of this writing, the film has already received one of the best possible stamps of approval.
Taking to his Twitter account, King revealed that he's seen the next chapter of IT, and that it's worth looking forward to. The best-selling author also had nothing but good things to say about IT: Chapter One, prior to its release back in 2017, so if fans are using King’s reactions as a quality gauge, this latest verdict bodes well. Calling the film “terrific”, King had this to say in his tweet: “Looking forward to IT CHAPTER 2? You should be. I’ve seen it, and it’s terrific. The trailer is coming Thursday, at noon. You’ll float.”
IT fans will recognize the “you’ll float” reference from the novel and the film, as a tactic utilized by the sewer-dwelling Pennywise (played in the new films by Peter Skarsgård), to lure children to their deaths. The next chapter of the film series will catch up with the one-time group of child outcasts, better known as the Losers’ Club, as they navigate the dicey prospect of Pennywise’s return. The cast is an especially enticing one, with James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain and Bill Hader among some of the stars portraying the adult versions of the child characters in the first film.
It’s encouraging to know that King has really enjoyed the film, especially since he’s not always one to give his approval. To this day, he maintains an outright disdain for Stanley Kubrick’s horror-masterpiece, The Shining – an adaptation of King’s book that left the author feeling less than enthused. Of course, simply because King said that he enjoyed the film doesn’t necessarily mean it'll achieve blockbuster status upon its release. But even with IT: Chapter Two roughly four months away from being released, a glowing recommendation from its creator is never a bad thing.
