Legendary horror author Stephen King wants to tell the story of Friday the 13th's Jason Voorhees from the psyhco killer's perspective, and thinks it would be a tragic tale. King, who has been churning out novels since the 1970s, is considered one of America's greatest authors, and is certainly one of the most prolific of all time, having produced over 60 novels and 200 short stories. Many of those have been turned into movies and TV shows, as King's work is often very cinematic in its scope and description.

Jason Voorhees, of course, is the antagonist of the long-running Friday the 13th movie franchise. He first appeared as a side character in the first movie in the series, but only in flashbacks as he was killed prior to the events seen on-screen. That was meant to be it for Jason, but he was revealed to be alive in the sequel, and has returned as the antagonist in every subsequent entry in the franchise. He is often killed at the end of the movie, or has his body dumped into Crystal Lake, the site of his first death in the first film. The character has also appeared in a number of video games and comic books, and has become a pop culture icon, thanks to his trademark machete and hockey mask.

This weekend, the two horror legends collided, with King tweeting that the best novel idea he's ever had that he hasn't written is called I, Jason. It would tell Jason's tale from his perspective, and follow what King calls his "hellish fate," having to be killed at Crystal Lake over and over again, only to be resurrected each time. You can see his tweets on the idea below.

The tweets present an enticing prospect. King tackling one of the most iconic horror movie characters of all time would undoubtedly produce an interesting novel and movie adaptation. But, as King says, the likelihood of it happening is small. However, if it were to ever happen, Blumhouse would be the ideal studio to turn this concept into a film. Over the past several years, Blumhouse has established themselves as one of the industry's premier names in the horror genre, finding great success with their low-budget productions. They had a smash hit in 2018 with Halloween, which is getting a pair of sequels. Fans would certainly be interested in seeing Blumhouse put their spin on another horror icon.

However, if anyone has the power to make it happen, it is King. He wields an enormous amount of influence in both the publishing and movie worlds, and often can make projects happen purely by virtue of his name recognition. King knows this, and perhaps tweeted the idea in an effort to make it a reality. Its already got a lot of attention, with comedian and supernerd Patton Oswalt responding to King's tweet by saying he'd be willing to team up with King for an "Ace paperback double" that features Oswalt writing a novel from the perspective of Michael Myers or Leatherface. While the tweets may seem like wishful thinking at this point, the attention they've got could mean King gets to write his Friday the 13th novel at some point down the line.
