David Dastmalchian has been announced as a cast member of horror-thriller The Boogeyman, which will see Stephen King's short story of the same name adapted for the big screen. While he's certainly had a prolific career as a character actor since his appearance as a joker thug in The Dark Knight, Dastmalchian became most prominent after being cast in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad as the quirky Polka Dot Man. He was praised for the dark humor and the heart that he brought to The Suicide Squad, and quickly became a fan favorite.

Dastmalchian's involvement in The Boogeyman was confirmed in a press release from 20th Century Studios. Although it's not evident which role he'll be playing, the plot summary may give some indication. According to the statement, the story will follow two sisters who are targeted by a supernatural creature - the titular Boogeyman - after their psychologist father "has an encounter with a desperate patient in their house."

Dastmalchian has been an openly passionate fan of horror, even creating the Count Crowley horror comics and hosting Fangoria's 2021 Chainsaw Awards. With Dastmalchian being in the hands of acclaimed Host director Rob Savage for The Boogeyman, the prospect of a Stephen King adaptation from them is an exciting one. Yellowjackets star, Sophie Thatcher, is also confirmed to be in the film, and the project will be executive produced by A Quiet Place writing duo, Scott Becks and Bryan Woods. The press release confirmed that The Boogeyman will be released to stream exclusively on Disney's platforms. In the US, it will be available on Hulu, Star+ in Latin America and Disney+ under the Star banner in all other territories.
