Stellantis has entered the electric pickup truck segment with the Ram 1500 Revolution concept that is expected to challenge rivals like the Ford F-150 Lightning and the upcoming Tesla Cybertruck. Unlike other automakers, electric mobility has been quite slow for Stellantis. However, the conglomerate revealed the first-ever all-electric Jeep model last year. Slated for a release this year, the Jeep EV will contend with available models like the Rivian R1S, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Ford Mustang Mach-E. Alongside the Jeep EV, Stellantis also mentioned that an electric variant of the Ram truck would launch in 2024.

The Ram 1500 EV plays a key role in the Ram Revolution BEV Concept, which represents the automaker's ambition to disrupt the electric truck scene. According to Ram CEO Mike Koval Jr., this venture is the company's most significant sign that it's on the right path in its electric mobility journey. Stellantis confirms in a press release that a production variant of the 2024 Ram 1500 EV will be unveiled soon. The company claims that the truck will lead the market in areas like range, towing, payload, and charge times. The electric truck will also come with a mid-gate, which is currently only offered by the Chevrolet Silverado EV.

The Ram Revolution is a true muscle car, but adds modern elements to the design. The prototype's face has a spirited 'RAM' badge which complements the animated LED layout. Stellantis’ design team reworked the truck’s doors, transforming them into a grand saloon-style opening. The front bumper flares incorporate sharp LED lights. The concept also gets a new frunk that features an automatic open-and-close function. Stellantis claims that this increases storage and capability. Additionally, the concept comes with innovative compact side-view mirrors that can survey the truck’s surroundings using inbuilt cameras.

The Ram Revolution's interior will have third-row jump seats, a first for the automaker. Also, drivers can turn the center console armrest into a workstation surface. Using the jump seats and mid-gate, there are multiple seating configurations. The truck’s touchscreen display comprises two screens that can join to create a 28-inch display. The interior features advanced technology like digital side-view mirrors, an augmented reality heads-up display (HUD), a cabin mode, and an intelligent storage app. The concept also brings an AI assistant for driver-vehicle interactions. Drivers can also engage Shadow Mode, a feature that lets the truck follow the driver walking in front.

The concept has all-wheel drive capabilities and draws power from two electric drive modules (EDMs) positioned at the vehicle's rear and front. This optimizes interior and frunk space. While there are no available performance specifications, Stellantis says the Ram Revolution can gain up to 100 miles of driving range with a 10-minute charge. This is possible due to the truck's 800V fast charging architecture that maxes out at 350 kW.

2023 was predicted to be a vibrant year for EVs, especially trucks, but the action may truly unfold only next year. The Ram Revolution truck should launch in 2024, barring any last-minute hitches. Interestingly, that's the same time Tesla is expected to begin deliveries of the Cybertruck. Many of the Ram concept’s features make the Cybertruck’s offerings look outdated, and the repeated delays by Tesla will have potential buyers looking at other options. It's a great time for pickup truck enthusiasts looking to go electric, and the Ram 1500 Revolution seems to have joined the fray in style.
