A special item called the Thieves Gem in Octopath Traveler 2 can be stolen for the Thieves License reward, which allows players to assign the Thief job as a secondary class to any member of their party. Although each of the eight characters in the game starts out with a primary class that cannot be changed, players are able to earn licenses from across Solistia that correlate to every known occupation. Giving someone a license expands the number of skills and abilities they learn when leveling up, giving players a chance to be prepared for a wider variety of situations.

Surprisingly, there are actually two Thieves Licenses that players may find, both of which are located in the eastern continent in the Clockbank region. Perhaps familiar to players who chose Throné when deciding their Traveler order in Octopath Traveler 2, this area is also a required place to travel toward in Partitio's story mission in Chapter 2. Traveling to the northern section of Clockbank leads players to the inner city, where a small alley with an unmarked door signals the way to the elusive Thieves Guild.

Stealing the Thieves Gem in Octopath Traveler 2

Octopath Traveler 2 Old Man in Clockbank Area that Holds the Thieves Gem for Throne to Steal with Path Action

Talking to the Thieves Guild leader near the shield icon in the hideout awards players their first Thieves License, but the only way to get a second revolves around stealing the Thieves Gem. Players need to head back to Clockbank's entrance only after talking to the Guild leader, where an old man can now be found in the city's main square. This NPC holds the Thieves Gem, which may be stolen through one of the new main characters of Octopath Traveler 2.

Every character in the game has special Path Actions that change between the day and night cycle. These skills are directly related to how party members interact with NPCs throughout the world, ranging from scrutinizing them to outright challenging them to fights. Throné's Path Action during the daytime named Steal allows her to have a percentage chance to take an item off any character she interacts with.

The percentage of success for stealing the Thieves Gem from the old man depends on Throné's level, which is recommended to be at least 18 before attempting this.

Much like the Path Actions needed to complete the Proof of Innocence quest in Octopath Traveler 2, it might be best for players to level up Throné enough to ensure their chances are 100% before proceeding. Once players steal the Thieves Gem from the old man, they can go back to the Thieves Guild leader and receive the second Thief License in Octopath Traveler 2.
