Warning! Spoilers for Static: Season One #6

Milestone’s electrifying teenage superhero Static has never looked better than he has in a breathtaking new variant for Static: Season One #6. The first season is coming to a close with series artist Nikolas Draper-Ivey’s latest cover.

Throughout Static: Season One, high school student Virgil Hawkins has learned how to use his new electromagnetic powers for the good of Dakota City. Joined by his cast of classmates and family members, Virgil has been on a journey of self-discovery following the events of the Big Bang. As he has finally stepped up and worn his first superhero costume, Virgil is becoming Static on the tail end of the first season. Currently, the series is two issues away from its finale, written by Vita Ayala with art by Nikolas Draper-Ivey.

Draper-Ivey has revealed his variant wraparound cover for Static: Season One #6, which tributes the series and incorporates everyone in Virgil Hawkins’ life. The cover rivals his variant cover homaging Akira from Static #4, and his original variant for the debut issue, which also included the cast of characters. As Virgil takes to the skies, he flies on a manhole cover over Dakota, remembering his friends Daisy Watkins, Frieda Goren, Richie Foley, and Darius Davis. He also keeps his family in mind, including his parents and his sister Sharon, who previously spurred him onto live out his destiny. Meanwhile, Hotstreak, Shiv, Puff, and other metahumans are just around the corner, ready to take on the teenage superhero.

The variant cover signals that Virgil will be coming to the end of his journey soon, having fully taken on his Static persona. Without his past confines of a secret identity, he has been able to accept the help of his family and friends, and embrace the hero that the city needs in the face of the Big Bang’s villainous metahumans. As Hotstreak bands together with the bang babies who fans might recognize from the animated series, their fan favorite leader is missing. Ebon had brought together the team to work with each other and fight Static, and he could easily be a surprise part of the finale.

The coming of age tale is promising to end on an epic note, opening up the possibility of a second season in the future. Static: Season One #5 releases on January 25, ahead of the finale which does not yet have an official release date.
