Geoff Johns' Stargirl TV show, starring Brec Bassinger, sets its premiere date on both The CW and DC Universe for May. For roughly two years now, the drama about DC's Courtney Whitmore has been in the works, based on the character that Johns created in 1999. While Courtney has been portrayed in other DC television shows such as Smallville and Legends of Tomorrow, this will be the heroine's first time leading her own series. Since the initial announcement at San Diego Comic-Con 2018, the release for the series has been pushed back due to various reasons. It started with several reschedulings, partially related to Titans season 2, to the decision that it would have a simultaneous release on DC Universe and The CW.

The series will tackle the origin story of Courtney becoming the Stargirl superhero as well as reflect the legacy of the Justice Society of America. Not only will the series focus on the teenager discovering her inner hero, but Courtney will help lead a new generation for the JSA. Several members of the first generation have been added to the series including Starman (Joel McHale), Wildcat (Brian Stapf), Hourman, (Lou Ferrigno Jr.) and Dr. Mid-Nite (Henry Thomas). In terms of villains, the first season will feature members of the Injustice Society, famous for being foes to the JSA in the comics. While the wait for the series has been long, Warner Bros. TV has finally ended the speculations to when it will launch.

After months of waiting, DC Universe and The CW has set the official release dates for Stargirl. Having previously promised a spring release, Stargirl will premiere on Monday, May 11 on DC Universe, with its broadcast airing on The CW being slated for Tuesday, May 12. This will be the first time any of the DC Universe series has aired outside the streaming service. Doom Patrol season 2 will also release on HBO Max, putting it in a similar position to Stargirl where it will air on two platforms

Marketing for the series increased once the news about its simultaneous airing hit. During the Arrowverse crossover Crisis on Infinite Earths, the new multiverse established Stargirl as being part of Greg Berlanti's DC TV franchise. While Earth-2 was previously known as the home of The Flash's Jesse Quick (Violett Beane) and Harry Wells (Tom Cavanagh), Crisis rebooted the multiverse. In this new iteration, it is the home for the Stargirl series as several members of the JSA 2.0 and S.T.R.I.P.E. were seen standing behind Courtney during a montage of the new realities. Whether or not there will be any crossovers with Stargirl remains to be seen. It's likely safe to say that the first season will keep Stargirl relatively self-contained.

Currently, the characters of Earth-Prime don't know about the multiverse still existing. However, the possibility for a crossover with Stargirl and/or any of the DC Universe shows (Titans being on Earth-9, Doom Patrol on Earth-21) certainly exists down the line. While the official statement from Warner Bros. doesn't specify any time slot yet, chances are good that it will air in The Flash's regular slot at 8pm as season 6 will likely be done at that point. As the spring season progresses, expect more Stargirl TV show trailers and information to debut about the series leading up to its May premiere.
