The DC Universe Stargirl TV show first look image reveals Courtney Whitmore's (Brec Bassinger) superhero costume ahead of the series' early 2020 premiere. DC Universe launched on Batman Day 2018 and shortly after, the service's first original series, Titans, premiered. The company was so confident in their live-action take on the DC Comics Teen Titans team that they renewed Titans for season 2 ahead of the show's initial debut. But Titans is just one of many DC Universe originals planned for subscribers. Others include a mix of live-action and animated fare, like Young Justice: Outsiders, Doom Patrol, Swamp Thing, Harley Quinn and Stargirl.

Based on the DC Comics superhero of the same name, Stargirl tells the story of Courtney Whitmore, the step-daughter of Pat Dugan aka. the Star-Spangled Kid (Luke Wilson), who discovers her step-father's superhero costume. Courtney is resentful of Pat for marrying her mother and moving them from a metropolitan area to the much more rural Nebraska and she dons the superhero costume in an act of rebellion. However, Courtney becomes a superhero in her own right and eventually takes on the mantle of Stargirl. Now, ahead of Stargirl's DC Universe premiere, the company has unveiled a first look at Bassinger in costume as the titular superhero.

Out of the official DC Universe panel at WonderCon this weekend, the streaming service revealed fans' first look at Stargirl's Courtney Whitmore suited up and ready for superhero action. The costume is incredibly accurate to Stagirl's from the comics, down to the star details on her sleeves and the red gloves. Further, Courtney's holding on to the Cosmic Staff, which she receives from Jack Knight aka. Starman (Joel McHale) in the comic books. Take a look at the Stargirl image below.

Further, DC Universe announced Stargirl is expected to premiere in early 2020, slightly later than the previously revealed Fall 2019 window. It's possible Stargirl was delayed slightly to make room for Titans season 2, which now debuts Fall 2019. The change comes to the DC Universe TV series release schedule revealed at New York Comic Con 2018, where Titans held its world premiere screening. Now it appears Stargirl will premiere a little later than previously expected, but not too much later.

In terms of Stargirl's costume, the quality is perhaps a little better than that of Legends of Tomorrow's Stargirl. But that version of Stargirl was a member of the Justice Society of America during the 1940s and her costume may have been on the simpler side to fit the time period. Certainly, DC Universe's Stargirl looks much more modern. What may be most interesting about this image, though, is what it only partially reveals: Pat Dugan's robotic suit S.T.R.I.P.E. Part of the robot's leg and hand can be seen behind Courtney, giving fans an idea of the sheer size of S.T.R.I.P.E. in the upcoming TV show.

While we likely won't get a Stargirl trailer until much later this year ahead of the show's 2020 premiere, this first look image should tide over fans till then. Still, fans will no doubt be looking forward to seeing Stargirl in action as soon as possible.
