Brec Bassinger, who portrays Courtney Whitmore on Stargirl, responds to fan support for the show's future after season 3 amid Arrowverse shows getting canceled. While the Arrowverse has had some emotional rollercoasters in its years, 2022 is becoming its biggest one yet. Normally, The CW renews the majority of their DC TV properties, since they have become a flagship franchise for the WarnerMedia and Paramount-owned network. However, this year kicked off with the surprise that the two studios are looking to sell The CW after 16 years, since The WB and UPN did their merger.

While a new owner has yet to purchase The CW, it caused the network to delay its renewals and cancellations for the 2022-2023 TV season, and The CW has even ordered fewer pilots than usual. Even though Arrowverse dramas such as The Flash and Superman & Lois were handed another season, some of the other DC TV shows weren't as lucky. Within the last few weeks, The CW officially cancelled Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman, and DC TV newcomer Naomi. Since Gotham Knights was picked up to series, The CW has only 3 DC TV shows for its 2022-2023 slate. However, there is still one DC drama that has yet to learn its fate: Stargirl, season 3 of which is yet to premiere this year.

Following the triple DC TV cancellations, as well as multiple veteran shows getting axed, Stargirl fans began sharing their concerns for the show's future beyond season 3 on social media. The number of responses following The CW's multiple cancellations last week even led to Stargirl trending on Twitter, which got the attention of the leading heroine herself. Bassinger, who has starred as the titular DC hero since 2020, responded to the fan support for Stargirl season 3 and beyond, making it clear that she is seeing all the love and support for the DC drama:

Stargirl, which was given a season 3 renewal in May 2021, is one of the DC TV shows set up to be Arrowverse-adjacent. Despite not being a traditional spinoff, Stargirl was established during Crisis on Infinite Earths as part of the Arrowverse Multiverse in the form of a new Earth-2, different from The Flash's original iteration. Stargirl season 2 began setting up a connection to the larger franchise through The Flash's Jay Garrick, with John Wesley Shipp portraying his Golden Age hero in both series. Despite the lack of on-screen crossovers, Stargirl is taking part in the tie-in comic event Earth-Prime, which will be canon to the Arrowverse's continuity while incorporating Courtney with the other CW heroes.

Since Stargirl season 3 has yet to premiere, it will likely be a few months before The CW makes its announcement on a potential season 4. While Stargirl has been critical and ratings success, it's tricky to know if its future is safe, given the sale situation. Following the completed merger, Warner Bros. Discovery is having a reported shakeup with their DC TV shows and movies, which is likely to have a significant effect on Stargirl and the remaining Arrowverse shows. While Bassinger's response is definitely appreciated, it's understandable that the lead can probably not say much about the future for Stargirl after season 3, especially if no decisions have been made yet.
