Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Stargirl's series finale.A flash forward to 10 years in the future reveals the fate of Courtney Whitmore and many other DC Comics characters in the Stargirl series finale. The hit superhero show came to a close after three seasons with an action-packed ending that resolved most of the series' ongoing storylines. It also gave a taste of what might have come to pass had Stargirl been renewed for season 4.

The cancelation of Stargirl could have forced the series to end on a cliffhanger, like many of the other Arrowverse series that ended prematurely in the wake of the CW network assuming new ownership. Thankfully, the show's producers had sufficient warning to create two ending sequences, dependent upon whether the show was renewed for another year or not. The ending they ultimately used paints a bright future for Stargirl and the new Justice Society of America, making it clear that while the Stargirl series may be ending, the heroic spirit that was the core of the show will never end.

The Shade Curates A Justice Society Museum

Stargirl Series Finale The Shade in the Justice Society Museum

The flash-forward sequence of the Stargirl series finale opens with the former Injustice Society traitor Shade welcoming the viewer into the meeting hall of the Justice Society of America. He is quickly revealed to be guiding a tour group through the new JSA base, which is also a museum devoted to the team's history, with interactive and educational exhibits. This is a nod to the 1999 JSA comic book series, where the Justice Society operated out of a museum of superhero history. Placing Shade in charge of the museum also makes sense, given the reformed villain's knowledge of history as an immortal.

Stargirl Is Now Starwoman

Courtney Whitmore Starwoman from Starman comic

Courtney Whitmore does not make a direct appearance in the flash-forward sequence at the end of the Stargirl series finale. The final fate of DC Comcs' Stargirl is confirmed, however, as the Shade begins the roll call of current Justice Society members with "Starwoman." This reveals that Courtney changed her codename once she grew up. It is also a reference to Sins of Youth, a comic book storyline from 2000, where multiple superheroes and their teen sidekicks switched ages, Freaky Friday style, and Courtney Whitmore adopted the codename Starwoman while she was the only adult in a Justice Society made up of children.

Cindy And Cameron Adopted Their Father's Aliases

Stargirl Series Finale Cindy Burman Shiv Dragon Queen and Cameron Mahkent Icicle

The Shade's roll call in the Stargirl finale also reveals that the new Justice Society of America includes members named Dragon Queen and Icicle. This confirms that both Cindy "Shiv" Burman, the daughter of Dragon King, and Cameron Mahkent, the son of Icicle, continued to reject the legacies of their fathers and eventually became superheroes and Justice Society of America members. This is further affirmed by a directional marker listing the exhibits in the Justice Society of America Museum, which makes mention of Dragon Queen's lab in a clear reference to Cindy's talent for chemistry.

Mike Dugan Became STRIPE 2.0

Stargirl Series Finale Trae Romano as Mike Dugan

Throughout all three seasons of the Stargirl series, Mike Dugan fought the same battle as his father, Pat "Stripsey" Dugan, of wanting to be taken seriously as a superhero despite his sidekick status. While he briefly wielded the dangerous power of the Thunderbolt genie before giving it to Jakeem Thunder, Mike ultimately started studying mechanics under his father's watchful eye and worked with him on enhancing the STRIPE armor. The flash forward confirms that Mike eventually followed in his father's footsteps and earned an official spot in the Justice Society as STRIPE 2.0.

The Justice Society Expanded: All Confirmed New Members

Stargirl Series Finale Stella Smith as Artemis Crock

The new Justice Society of America was revealed to have expanded far beyond the founding four members of Starwoman, Wildcat, Hourman, and Doctor Mid-Nite. Apart from STRIPE 2.0, Dragon Queen, and the new heroic Icicle, the new team also included Jade, Obsidian, Jakeem Thunder, Artemis, Sand, Damage, and Solomon Grundy. The only one of these characters not to have previously appeared or been mentioned in Stargirl was Damage, who was the son of the original Atom, Al Pratt, in the comics.

They Saved Starman's Brain

Stargirl Series Finale Brain of Sylvester Pemberton Starman

The revelation that the monster Ultra-Humanite had taken over Starman's body was one of the most shocking twists in Stargirl's history. The Stargirl series finale topped it, however, by showing that Sylvester Pemberton's brain was still alive somewhere, in a jar in a hidden laboratory. Thankfully, the flash-forward resolved this plot hook by having Shade reveal, as he listed the great accomplishments of the new JSA in their early days, that the team eventually found Starman's brain and "brought the true Sylvester Pemberton back to life."

The Seven Soldiers Of Victory Returned

Stargirl Seven Soldiers of Victory photo

The Shade recalled many of the great deeds of the new Justice Society of America, from their defeat of the Ultra-Humanite and Injustice Society to their battle with the demon Eclipso. He also described a battle with a cosmic being known as the Nebula Man and how the JSA saved the missing Seven Soldiers of Victory in the process. This storyline was first teased in the Stargirl season 1 finale when an amnesiac Shining Knight joined the new Justice Society of America in their first battle against the Injustice Society and made reference to a subplot from the original Stars and STRIPE comics that inspired Stargirl.

Hourman and Doctor Mid-Nite Get Married

Stargirl Series Finale Hourman Rick Tyler Beth Chapel Doctor Mid-Nite

Strangely enough, while the Stargirl series finale opened the door to a future romance between Courtney Whitmore and Cameron Mahkent, only one couple was confirmed in the flash-forward sequence. The Shade noted, while listing the current membership of the new Justice Society, that Hourman and Doctor Mid-Nite were going to be married soon and that he would be officiating the ceremony. While Beth Chapel and Rick Tyler had never been portrayed as having any interest in one another, the finale did subtly tease this development, with Rick going with Beth to offer emotional support as she tried to reconcile with her parents.

Jay Garrick Is Alive and (Still) Running

Stargirl Season 3 Finale The Shade Richard Swift and Jay Garrick Flash Cameo

The flash-forward sequence ended with a literal Flash forward, as the Jay Garrick Flash arrived in a peal of thunder and lightning. This was the first indication that the Flash survived the original Justice Society's final battle from the Stargirl series premiere. It's unclear, however, if this version of Jay Garrick was unique to the setting of Earth-2, or, as one Arrowverse theory suggested, he was the Earth-Prime Jay Garrick running between realities.

In either case, this Jay Garrick had been sent by Courtney Whitmore to "gather the troops," because the Justice Society was needed once again. The speedster noted, with a touch of irony, that this included Shade, who had originally been one of his greatest enemies before joining the Injustice Society. The Shade was clearly uneasy thinking of the Jay Garrick Flash as an ally after all this time, but sarcastically replied, "Are they ever?" when Jay Garrick said, "Our adventures are not over." This cemented the central theme of Stargirl season 3, with frenemies coming together for a common cause.
