Brec Bassinger addresses the possibility of Stargirl season 4 happening on The CW, with season 3 set to officially premiere later this month. While 2022 has been a huge shakeup for The CW when it comes to their DC TV shows, superhero action is still part of the network. Earlier in 2022, The CW, 75% of which is about to be owned by Nexstar, canceled Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman, and the latest DC TV series, Naomi. However, The Flash season 9 and Superman & Lois season 3 are still a go, but won't premiere until 2023 alongside the next DC TV drama, Gotham Knights.

However, The CW's fall slate isn't without some DC TV content, as Stargirl season 3 premieres next week after season 2 finished in 2021. Due to the massive changes going on with the network, there has been concern from fans if Stargirl season 4 will even be a possibility. While not a traditional Arrowverse spinoff, the series is adjacent to the popular franchise, as Crisis on Infinite Earths established the DC teen drama as the new Earth-2. The Flash's Jay Garrick became the first Arrowverse character to help bridge the two worlds, as John Wesley Shipp's version on the Grant Gustin-starring series also appeared in Stargirl season 2, being the same iteration from Earth-Prime.

Stargirl season 3, which finished production several months ago, has a 13-episode order, which will air from August until the end of 2022. Due to The CW's recent sale, a renewal has yet to be announced, as that will be determined later in the season. However, in a new interview with KSiteTV, Bassinger, who portrays Courtney Whitmore a.k.a. Stargirl, is asked if Stargirl season 3 has a definitive ending, or if the finale seeds ideas for a possible season 4. The 23-year-old star remains coy, but praises showrunner Geoff Johns, stating that he "protected us either way." Check out her quote below:

That’s a trick question! Our showrunner is so smart, and so lovely, that he protected us either way, which I think is so wonderful.

Brec Bassinger as Stargirl

It's a valid question if Stargirl season 3 wraps everything up or if there are any cliffhangers that could lead into a season 4. While Batwoman season 3 ended with most of its plotlines finished, Legends of Tomorrow season 7 took a different approach. Despite being on the bubble, the show had its season 7 finale end with a very significant cliffhanger, in which the heroes, alongside Donald Faison's newly introduced Booster Gold, got arrested by the time police. The cancelation came roughly a month after both finales had aired, which became a bigger problem for Legends of Tomorrow, and it's a situation that fans, understandably so, wouldn't want to see for Stargirl season 3.

Since Stargirl season 3 wrapped filming around the time The CW's sale situation happened, it's hard to know if production could adjust to that, as there haven't been any reshoots. If season 4 were not to happen, it's not necessarily a guarantee the other remaining Arrowverse shows can assist in helping them wrap up cliffhangers. The Flash season 9, which will be the show's final one, starts shooting in September, while Stargirl season 3 is airing. Superman & Lois established last season that, while they are connected to the Arrowverse franchise, they exist on a separate Earth, which causes another challenge for Stargirl if it gets canceled. Hopefully, Stargirl season 3 performs well enough that it prompts The CW to give it a season 4, at least to wrap up the series if they are looking to end it.
