With its sophomore season well underway, Stargirl has promoted both Neil Hopkins and Joy Osmanski to series regulars for season 3. Stargirl stars Brec Bassinger as Courtney Whitmore who discovers the staff of the dead superhero Starman a decade after he and his cohorts were defeated by their enemies - the Injustice Society. With the aid of her stepfather, Luke Wilson's Pat Dugan (Starman's former sidekick), Courtney leads a new generation of the Justice Society of America (JSA) including Anjelika Washington's Doctor Mid-Nite, Cameron Gellman's Hourman, and Yvette Monreal's Wildcat.

Shifting across to the CW for its second season, subtitled "Summer School," the new season of Stargirl sees the new JSA patrolling Blue Valley in the wake of defeating the Injustice Society at the end of season 1. However, greater threats have emerged in the form of one of DC Comics' most dangerous villains, the entity known as Eclipso. Stargirl must also contend with the arrival of Jennie Lynn Scott/Jade (Ysa Penarejo), the supposed daughter of former Green Lantern Alan Scott.

While it remains to be seen how the heroes contend with the arrival of Eclipso and the threat he poses, plans are already underway for the next season of Stargirl. Deadline has revealed that both Hopkins and Osmanski have been promoted to series regulars going into season 3. The pair play Lawrence 'Crusher' Crock/Sportsmaster and Paula Brooks/Tigress, respectively. Both characters were seen throughout season 1 as members of the Injustice Society and frequently battled the JSA. Despite being mostly absent for season 2, aside from making guest-appearances in the upcoming fourth episode, this looks to change going into the the show's third season.

Stargirl Injustice Society Tigress Sportsmaster Brainwave Ixicle

It's unclear what will bring Sportsmaster and Tigress back, but considering they have shown to be under arrest for petty robbery charges, it's possible that they will escape and reform the Injustice Society. As in the comics, both Sportsmaster and Tigress are depicted as the parents of Courtney's classmate Artemis (Stella Smith), a star-athlete and football player. Artemis has been presented as a potential candidate for Eclipso's new Injustice Society (Injustice Unlimited) so this season may see her finally take on the moniker of Tigress like her mother.

Traditionally Artemis has been presented as both a supervillain and a superhero, most notably in the Young Justice animated series where she was seen to be at ends with her father and sister (who acted as Tigress).  If Artemis is going to step into her mother's shoes, then it would make sense if in season 3 we see the character working alongside her parents, or at odds with them for following in their footsteps. It's possible she may even join Stargirl and the rest of the Justice Society in season 3, which would certainly create some family tension. Either way, it's good to hear that Hopkins and Osmanski will be returning in Stargirl's future and have the opportunity to continue exploring their characters in future seasons.
