Stargirl season 2 will air on The CW in August. Based on the DC Comics character of the same name, Stargirl focuses on Courtney Whitmore as she takes on the mantle of Stargirl and forms a new incarnation of the Justice Society of America alongside her step-father Pat Dugan and her friends who become Wildcat, Hourman, and Doctor Midnight. The show draws heavily from DC Comics Golden Age characters, with the villains of the first season being The Injustice Society of America, which includes members like Icicle, Brainwave, Sportsmaster, Tigress, The Fiddler, The Dragon King, and The Gambler.

The first season of the series aired as a joint venture between the now-defunct DC Universe service and The CW. Episodes would air on Sunday on the DC Universe app and the next day on The CW. The series was picked up for a second season exclusively for The CW and will expand the roster of characters on the show. Stargirl season 2 will feature the villains Eclipso and Shade, new heroes like Jakeem Thunder and Thunderbolt, and the return of John Wesley Shipp as Jay Garrick.

According to Deadline, The CW has set the premiere for Stargirl season 2 on August 10, 2021. This puts it in the Tuesday night slot alongside Superman & Lois. Season 2 will premiere one year to the date that the season 1 finale 'Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E. pt 2.' aired on the DC Universe app.

Stargirl is part of the summer lineup of shows for The CW. Season 1 performed very well in the summer lineup last year, so it makes sense to bring it back in the same season. Being late summer means it will be leading into the normal fall season of programming The CW lines up. Season 1 consisted of 13 episodes, and if season 2 keeps the same episode order with no hiatus the season will be wrapping up in the middle of October.

Stargirl occupies a unique spot in the network's lineup of DC superhero shows. It is so far the only series that takes place outside of the main Arrowverse after Supergirl and Black Lightning were incorporated into it during Crisis on Infinite Earths. While the traditional crossover episode this season, which would have seen Superman & Lois crossover with Batwoman, was canceled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Stargirl will have its own unique crossover with a cameo from Shipp as Jay Garrick, who was previously seen on The Flash. Naomi, the next DC show coming to The CW, will feature the multiverse and the groundwork could be laid for Stargirl to crossover with Arrowverse series like The Flash, Batwoman, and Legends of Tomorrow.
