Stargirl season 2 will take the storyline in a much darker place says one of its stars. Stargirl premiered on the DC Universe App in 2020 while airing the next day on The CW and went on to be a big success for the network. The series was picked up for a second season by the CW, and is set to air in August 2020.

Stargirl season 2 will feature the title character and the Justice Society going up against the villainous Eclipso, played by Nick E. Tarabay, who is the wrath of God and a spirit of vengeance. The Shade, a villain who can manipulate shadows and create constructs out of shadows will be another villain for the season played by Jonathan Cake. With two villains whose powers are based in darkness, it seems to be hinting that Stargirl season 2 will be a darker tale for the heroes.

Joy Osmanski, who plays Paula Brooks, a.k.a. Tigress on Stargirl, told Digital Spy that season 2 will be a darker season and one that is deeper. She hinted that the villains this season will be a factor in what pushes the series and characters forward. Osmanski also hinted that her relationship with her daughter Artemis Cook (who takes on the mantle of Tigress in the comics) is going to be explored. Osmanki said:

I feel like in the second season, shows have an opportunity to go deeper and darker, and I think we're going to see some of that in terms of the evil forces at work...In season one, Tigress and Sportsmaster are bad guys but man, compared to some of what's going to happen in season two, it's not even close...Everything is relative on the show, and I think what we saw with Tigress is that she's completely bloodthirsty when it comes to defending her family. She'll do anything and she doesn't have any moral qualms about shooting the principal in Stargirl's home – she didn't hesitate. I think she's going to have to re-establish who she is in season two, but it's going to have to be in a different way.

Stargirl Season 1 finale Injustice Society of America Sportsmaster Icicle Dragon King Tigress

Tigress is one of the Injustice Society of America members left alive at the end of season 1, alongside her husband, Sportsmaster, and the Gambler. With many of her teammates now gone, the return of old foes, and a new threat, Tigress will now be cornered as opposed to being in a position of power, which could make her even more a threat for multiple parties. Parental/child relationships are a centerpiece of Stargirl, and Tigress' love for her daughter could come into conflict if Artemis takes on a heroic mantle like she does in Young Justice. There is also a chance that Tigress could train her daughter to follow in her footsteps to become a villain similar to Artemis on Arrow.

Stargirl season 1 ended with the Justice Society defeating the villains but also pushing many of the characters on interesting paths. Courtney has finally found a sense of stability, but the return of the original Starman may shake things up for the family unit. Wildcat, who was against killing, found herself murdering Brainwave while Beth's Doctor Midnight goggles were destroyed, leaving questioning of her place in the team without a superpower.  Hourman has let go of his motivation for killing Solomon Grundy, a decision that may come back in season 2. Combine that with the children of Icicle and The Fiddler losing their parents, there is a lot of dramatic potential for Stargirl season 2 to dig deeper into the characters with various characters taking unexpected paths.
