Todd Howard has confirmed that Constellation will not be the only faction in Starfield, with the director revealing that the upcoming title will have many groups for players to join. Fans got a better look at the game during the opening of the Xbox showcase at E3, with Bethesda unveiling a brand-new trailer for Starfield. While it contained very little detail about how the game will actually play, it was accompanied by an announcement that it will launch on November 11, 2022.

Since the E3 trailer, more information has surfaced about Starfield. According to Howard, the new franchise is very much like "Skyrim in space," giving players a sense of what they can expect from Starfield when it finally releases next year. The studio is also expecting the brand to expand outside of just gaming, opening up the potential for possible Starfield television and movie adaptations.

In an interview with British newspaper The Telegraph, Bethesda director and executive producer Todd Howard has spoken about the different factions that will be available in Starfield. During the Xbox briefing at E3, fans got a first look at the upcoming space-based RPG in addition to information about Constellation. This is a group of space explorers that the player will be part of. However, Constellation will not be the only in-game faction in Starfield. Speaking in the interview, Howard confirmed that "there are lots of factions in the game" but that Constellation will be the most important one.

Starfield gameplay was not shown alongside release date reveal

"It’s kind of like Skyrim in terms of the structure of the game, where you're going to be who you want to be, and then there's different factions that you can join, and really carve your own path."

As expected following the acquisition of Bethesda by Microsoft, news has also emerged that Starfield will be an Xbox exclusive that will be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one. The game will be available on PC but this announcement seemingly confirms that future Bethesda titles will not be available on the likes of the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5.

Starfield has long been teased by Bethesda and has been highly anticipated by fans, with the game set to be the first new RPG franchise from the studio in more than a decade. The fact that so much new information has been revealed is good news and will likely excite players, although demand for a proper look at gameplay will undoubtedly grow in the coming weeks and months.
