Random events are not new in Stardew Valley, but, with the release of update 1.5, many of them, including the Stone Owl and Strange Capsule night events, have become far less rare. In Stardew Valley, players own and operate a farm. They can design and lay out their property any way they want and simulate everything from growing crops and mining ore to getting married and starting a family. Developer ConcernedApe has hidden many random events and Easter eggs around Stardew Valley for players to discover. Prior to update 1.5, it was virtually impossible for players to get the Stone Owl statue to spawn on their farm in the middle of the night. Now, this event is fairly common, but fans are wondering what to do with this odd sculpture and what its purpose is.

If players encounter this chance event, they will hear the hoot of an owl while they sleep. Then, they will wake up that day to find an owl sculpture unrelated to the one available in the Night Market has spawned somewhere on their property. Here's what happens when the Stone Owl spawns on a player's farm in Stardew Valley and how players can improve their chances of encountering this often random event.

How to Get The Stone Owl in Stardew Valley

A player finds the Stone Owl on their farm one morning in Stardew Valley

Random events like Stone Owl and Strange Capsule are, by definition, random, so it is nearly impossible for players to predict exactly when one will occur. With the new update, these events have become about as rare as finding a meteorite. According to a Tweet by ConcernedApe, there is a less than 1/100 chance each night of getting the Stone Owl to spawn.

To improve the chance this owl will find a player's farm suitable to take a rest, players should make sure they have a free tile somewhere on their farm where the Stone Owl Statue can appear. Players can then progress the game normally. Eventually, they will go to bed one night and hear the hooting of an owl. The next day, the Stone Owl will appear. Some players have seen this event take place after year one, but this can vary between players.

There isn't much players can do with the Stone Owl once it appears, either. It is a decoration, and players have the option to move it anywhere they want. When players click on the statue, even the description is elusive, saying, "It's not clear where this came from, but it looks very fine." Players should note that it is not the same as the Stone Owl available at the Night Market.

Update 1.5 for Stardew Valley expanded the game considerably, including a new beach farm, customizable options, new characters to meet, new goals, and the ability to make home renovations, among many other new features. The update is currently available for PC players and is set to release for console users sometime in early 2021.
