A surprise update has given fans of Stardew Valley many new things to do, refreshing the well-loved farming simulator. The 1.5 update introduced new bundles for the Community Center and new crops, trees, Maker machines, and animals. However, the biggest update, by far, is the addition of the new location Ginger Island. The jungle island is home to many strange and exciting secrets, including a new Stardew Valley NPC named Leo. Players may be wondering who Leo is and how they can meet him.

Leo isn't accessible at the start of the game, like many of the other NPCs in Stardew Valley. In fact, players won't find him until they have completed the main storyline for the game by finishing the Community Center bundles or the Joja Mart packages. Once they do so, the Stardew Valley update to Willy's shop, a broken-down boat hidden in a back room, will be available for players to repair and then use to travel to Ginger Island. This is where they will meet Leo.

Stranded on Stardew Valley's Ginger Island after his parents were lost at sea, Leo is a child about the age of Vincent and Jas. He has lived alone and feral on the island and is exceptionally shy. In order for him to talk to the player, they must first befriend the island's parrots with 10 golden walnuts, obtained through a series of puzzles. After this, the player can start building a relationship with Leo with each visit to the island.

Stardew Valley 1.5 Update Launch

Leo obviously isn't a new Stardew Valley marriage candidates, due to his age, but that doesn't take away from the quality of his backstory and player relationship. His story is endearing and quite tragic, and those wanting to help the wayward child can aid him by bringing him gifts and speaking with him regularly. When the player gets him to six hearts, Leo will leave Ginger Island and come to live in the town of Stardew Valley, befriending Jas, Vincent and Linus, as well as the player.

Finding the right gifts for Leo encourages Stardew Valley fans to take advantage of the items that can be found exclusively on Ginger Island. He loves mangos and ostrich eggs, which were added in Stardew Valley's 1.5 update as new items for players to farm. Leo also loves a dish called Poi, a kind of sweet soup that can be cooked by the player. The addition of Leo's story in Stardew Valley gives the new Ginger Island a narrative filled not just with adventure but with the kind of tragedy that can come from traveling the seas, giving players an incentive to keep coming back to the new island with the hope of giving Leo the home he deserves.
