There’s no question that the Jedi are some of the most important characters in Stars Wars lore. Given their commitment to the Force and to being an agent for political good in the Galaxy, they come to play an important role in its greatest stories. Thus, many viewers have wondered, if they were to be a Padawan, just which one of the many Jedi that appears would be their master.

Fortunately, the schema provided by the Chinese zodiac gives a great deal of insight as to which Jedi would make a suitable master for every sign.

Rat - Ahsoka

Ahsoka looking serious in Book of Boba Fett

Ahsoka Tano is one of the most beloved characters in the Star Wars canon, and with good reason. Given that she was one of Anakin’s students before her fall, she was a witness to some of the worst events in the history of the Galaxy. Even in her later appearances, she maintains the fiery spirit that characterized her as a Padawan.

Thus, she would pair well with the quick-witted and charming Rat, and the two would make a fearsome combination.

Ox- Ki-Adi-Mundi

Jedi Master Ki-Adi-Mundi in Star Wars.

Ki-Adi-Mundi is one of the more fascinating Jedi to have emerged out of Star Wars lore, not least because he had a rigorously logical approach to the world that was, in part, a function of his biology. While this was useful in some circumstances, it could also cause him not to see certain kinds of problems.

However, this means that he would match very well with someone who is an Ox, since that sign is known for its conservative and sometimes stubborn point of view.

Tiger - Yoda

Yoda with a Lightsaber in Attack of the Clones

Master Yoda is indisputably one of the most powerful and influential Jedi to have appeared in Star Wars. He is also, notably, the wisest, with a profound perspective on the world that influenced the great happenings in the Galaxy. Though soft-spoken, he was often very intense and authoritative in his judgments.

He would make a good master for the Tiger, the Chinese zodiac that contains these qualities. What’s more, he could provide a useful balance to the Tiger’s emotional nature.

Rabbit - Rey

Rey with a yellow saber in Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker

Rey is one of the best characters to have emerged out of the Star Wars sequel trilogy, and she is also one of its most powerful. She is someone who is motivated very much by their convictions, and she is the type of person who will always fight for what she believes is right.

The Rabbit, a sign marked by its compassion and its sincerity, would make a good Padawan for her, as they would both be the type of Jedi who would always pursue justice.

Dragon - Anakin

Anakin Skywalker in Revenge of the Sith

There are few Star Wars characters quite as tragic as Anakin Skywalker, and much of the series’ most important storylines revolve around him and his actions. He is also a very fiery and passionate Jedi, someone who lets his emotions get in the way of his good judgment far too often.

However, this is what would make him a good match for the Dragon, whose warm-heartedness would be an excellent balance for Anakin’s tendency to react with anger to any kind of setback.

Snake - Kit Fisto

Kit Fisto with two lightsabers in Star Wars

In contrast to some other Jedi, who could be quite stiff and stubborn when it came to change, Kit Fisto was well-known for both his sense of humor and for his relatively relaxed approach to most issues of life.

The Snake is recognized for both being very gregarious and very smart, so it seems likely that such a Padawan would mesh well with Fisto’s personality, and thus the two of them would be able to become a formidable Jedi duo.

Horse - Luke

Luke Skywalker in A New Hope's Throne Scene

Most would agree that Luke Skywalker is one of the best Star Wars characters in the history of the franchise. It is his hero’s journey, after all, that sets the first trilogy in motion to begin with. He is an independent character and, as he shows time and again, he likes to do things his own way.

Luke would make a good master for the Horse, and the two of them would no doubt bring out the best in one another as they each tried to have their own way while also supporting the other.

Goat - Mace Windu

Samuel L. Jackson has been in many great roles, but Mace Windu is one of his best. Practical and wise yet also fearless, Windu was the type of person who thought nothing of challenging no less a power than Palpatine himself (and he would have defeated him if not for Anakin).

Though he has a powerful personality, he would match well with the Sheep, a sign marked by its peaceful and mild-mannered attitude. Mace would help such a person to come out of their shell and embrace the power of a Jedi.

Monkey - Yarael Poof

Yarael, like many other Jedi, was a person with many different facets to his personality. While he was often very serene, he was also capable of playing tricks on others, often showing that there was a mischievous element to his mind.

This being the case, it makes sense that he would pair well with a Monkey Padawan. The Monkey, due to its energetic and fun personality, would have much to learn from this particular Jedi.

Rooster - Qui-Gon

Qui-Gon holding a lightsaber up in Star Wars

Qui-Gon is another of the iconic characters of Star Wars, and he also happens to be one of Liam Neeson’s best roles. Qui-Gon was the type of Jedi that seemed to love breaking the rules, even as he also repeatedly showed that he was someone who put a great deal of faith in the principles of empathy and compassion.

He thus pairs well with Rooster, which is characterized by a hard-working and practical streak, and their competing personalities would do them both a great deal of good.

Dog - Obi-Wan

Obi Wan on the Jedi Council in Star Wars

During his long career as a Jedi, Obi-Wan faced many iconic enemies, and time and again he showed that he was a man of formidable integrity and power. Though he was very traditional in his mindset–sometimes rigidly so--he was also deeply empathetic and incredibly loyal to those who earned his trust.

He would thus do well with a Padawan that was born under the Dog, since such people are very good at being faithful and kind.

Pig - Plo Koon

Plo Koon in the cockpit in Star Wars

Even among the Jedi, a group renowned for its wisdom, Plo Koon was lauded. He possessed an understanding and a richness to his mind that was the envy of almost everyone that he met. What’s more, he was also a deeply thoughtful and kind person, always willing to help others.

Given that the Pig is marked by both its loving nature and its tolerance, such a Padawan would have much to learn, and to teach, Plo Koon.
