A new piece of Star Wars fan art imagines what Luke Skywalker could look like as a Sith apprentice being trained by Darth Vader. George Lucas shocked the world when he revealed in The Empire Strikes Back that Darth Vader was Luke's father. Darth Vader was redeemed by the end of the original trilogy before Lucas attempted to humanize the character even more in the prequel trilogy. In recent years, Luke has also been given more screen time, with Mark Hamill returning for all three films in the sequel trilogy and a de-aged version of the actor showing up in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett.

While the Skywalker Saga came to a close with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, both Anakin and Luke are returning for the upcoming Disney+ series, Obi-Wan Kenobi. The series takes place ten years after Revenge of the Sith, with Ewan McGregor's character hiding from the Empire and the Inquisitors, who are sent to hunt down the surviving Jedi after Order 66. The first Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer didn't reveal Anakin, but Hayden Christensen is set to return as Darth Vader over 15 years after he last played the character. Leia Organa is reportedly playing a role in Obi-Wan Kenobi's story, yet it was a young Luke who was revealed in the recent trailer. Newcomer Grant Feely is playing Luke in the Star Wars series. However, it's unknown how much screen time he will actually have since he doesn't meet Obi-Wan until they are both much older.

Obi-Wan Kenobi will see the former Jedi master watching over Luke, but a new piece of fan art from Guiillegfx imagines what would have happened had Anakin tracked down his son on Tatooine. The first piece of "What If?" style art envisions Anakin beating Obi-Wan and taking Luke on as his Sith apprentice. The second illustration shows a slightly lighter reality, with Anakin not turning to the dark side at all and still training his son. Both of the artist's pieces can be seen in his post below.

As far as Star Wars film canon goes, Luke never encounters his father until the events of A New Hope, with Obi-Wan telling him Darth Vader killed Anakin. The events of Obi-Wan Kenobi could slightly change that narrative if Darth Vader gets close to tracking down Luke, but it's unlikely the father and son will come face to face. That being said, Obi-Wan and Darth Vader will have another lightsaber duel in the Disney+ series, which could be the result of Vader discovering his son's location.

Needless to say, neither of these artworks will become a reality in the Star Wars series unless Obi-Wan has a dream about his former padawan training Luke. But that still doesn't take away from the potential a Darth Luke storyline has. Disney is quickly expanding the Marvel and Star Wars franchises on Disney+, so the studio could easily create an animated Star Wars What If? series should they want to. Marvel's What If? obviously ties into the events of the multiverse in shows like Loki and movies like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but the same principle could make for a fascinating Star Wars TV show as well.
