Donald Glover is rumored to reprise his role as young Lando Calrissian in an upcoming Star Wars TV show. Fans were excited upon learning that the actor and singer was cast as the younger version of the suave con-man popularized by Billy Dee Williams in Solo: A Star Wars Story. More than two years since he debuted the role, Glover will supposedly put the iconic yellow cape back on.

The project suffered production woes, including a last-minute switch that had original directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord exiting Solo, and Ron Howard replacing them. As such, Solo wasn't exactly the film that Lucasfilm hoped it would be. While the narrative turned out to be fine, fans weren't exactly thrilled about it like they normally would be with Star Wars movies. This resulted in the movie becoming the first installment from the franchise to be a financial disappointment. Aside from the issues Solo faced, the film's cast did a great job bringing their respective characters to life. Fans were particularly excited about Glover's portrayal of Lando. While he's not in the film much, he effectively captured the character's charm.

Now, Lucasfilm is rumored to be looking to bring the actor back for another project, this time for a standalone Lando TV show as suggested on the podcast Kessel Run Transmissions, hosted by Corey Van Dyke and Noah Outlaw. In a new episode of the podcast, Van Dyke said, "We've heard Donald Glover is coming back as Lando in his own series."

Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian in Solo A Star Wars Story

As exciting as this news is, it's best to take it with a healthy dose of salt as the trades have yet to back up these claims. Lucasfilm has also been mum about the rumor thus far, although chances are that they won't confirm anything until they've ironed out specifics of this possible project. It's worth noting, however, that the source previously correctly reported the news that Star Wars' next animated series will be about the Bad Batch, which is set to roll out next year. This adds to this latest rumor's credibility. In any case, there's no harm in discussing what the possibilities are for this new show if it actually happens.

This Lando Calrissian Star Wars TV show is the latest among the rumored projects Lucasfilm is working on for Disney+. On the heels of The Mandalorian and Star Wars: The Clone Wars final season's success, it makes sense that the studio is looking at expanding its brand via the streaming service with a couple of live-action shows including one about Obi-Wan Kenobi. Considering the controversy that surrounded Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, moving the Star Wars franchise forward via small-screen endeavors is a clever way to go about things at this point.

What's curious is when this rumored Lando show might take place and what kind of adventures Glover's character will go on. Since Glover's version of the character will be featured, it'll have to be before the events of the original trilogy. Fans have had the chance to see what the character was up to following his stint in Solo and involvement in the Rebellion in his appearance in Star Wars Rebels, but there's surely plenty more stories to tell about Lando in the Star Wars universe.
