Lucasfilm officially announces Triple Force Friday, a special event to celebrate the arrival of merchandise from Star Wars: Episode IX and The Mandalorian. 2019 is shaping up to be a huge year for the galaxy far, far away. Not only will the classic Skywalker saga come to its epic conclusion this December with J.J. Abrams' latest film, the franchise is making its long-awaited jump to live-action TV via Jon Favreau's The Mandalorian, which will premiere on Disney Plus. Both projects are exciting for their own reasons, and many fans can't wait to see how they pan out.

In typical Star Wars fashion, details about these two works are hard to come by as the studio operates under their trademark veil of secrecy. However, people know it's only a matter of time before the floodgates open and the zeitgeist is inundated with new Star Wars materials. This includes the plethora of tie-in products that will hit store shelves, and now eager collectors know when they'll be able to make their latest purchases.

Lucasfilm and Disney formally announced today that Triple Force Friday will take place on October 4, 2019. The name of the event stems from the fact three Star Wars releases will be represented. In addition to Episode IX and The Mandalorian, there will also be products related to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, a new video game releasing this holiday season.

Information about what specifically will be available to buy is vague right now (just toys, books, etc.), but that will all be revealed in due time when Lucasfilm looks to hype up their event. They've yet to confirm the Episode IX title, so they certainly aren't going to unveil any action figures or LEGO play sets at this point in time. While the studio's licensing partners are kept in the dark about some of the movie's biggest spoilers, toy manufacturers obviously need to know some things so they can make appealing products. This is simply Lucasfilm getting fans ready for what will surely be a crazy time later this year. Going by the history of sequel trilogy marketing, it means a new Episode IX trailer will probably be right around the corner after Triple Force Friday.

While it's been known for a while Episode IX debuts in December, there's yet to be an official premiere date revealed for The Mandalorian. In fact, Disney has yet to state when their streaming service will launch. For now, it'd be reasonable to assume The Mandalorian will air at some point in late 2019, considering it's official merchandise won't be available until October. Typically, Lucasfilm doesn't release tie-in products until close to a movie's release, in order to capitalize on all the buzz and enthusiasm. Of course, that could change in the case of The Mandalorian, but it wouldn't be surprising if Lucasfilm stayed true to their established ways.
