The seventh and final season of The Clone Wars beautifully tied up what has been a twelve-year journey that has spilled across various periods and pieces of content in the Star Wars franchise. Like everything else in the franchise, the season is littered with references, connections, and easter eggs to other pieces of Star Wars media.

The movie tie ins are pretty obvious throughout, so too are the TV references, but some are more deep cut, coming from the extended media, specifically comic books, with one coming having a significant place in explaining parts of the season.

Fife

Fife is a member of the Pyke syndicate and specifically is the majordomo to Marg Krim, the main Pyke saw throughout the Martez sisters and Ahsoka arc, alongside Fife.

Marg Krim is a very powerful Pyke and member of the Shadow Collective, debuting in the novel Dark Disciple. Fife though made his debut in the Maul comic Son Of Dathomir and is fairly prominent in the second issue of the great comic line. Alongside being the majordomo of Marg Krim, Fife played a role in the Battle on Ord Martell in the comics.

Gar Saxon

Gar Saxon confronts Ezra and Sabine in Star Wars Rebels.

Fans of Star Wars will likely recognize Gar Saxon from his time as the Imperial Viceroy of Mandalore, taking up the title when Clan Saxon sided with the recently risen Empire, putting Saxon in a prime position of power on his home planet.

However, his time on Rebels was not his first appearance in the Star Wars canon as, like Fife, Saxon debuted in the Son Of Dathomir comics as a very important character in Maul's journey, aiding his escape, and appearing in all four issues in the run of the comic.

Rook Kast

Gar Saxon and Rook Kast lead Maul's Madndalorian Super Commandos in the Siege of Mandalore in The Clone Wars

A character who many fans had never seen before that popped up alongside Gar Saxon in The Clone Wars season seven was a female Mandalorian warrior known as Rook Kast, a key member of Maul's entire organization who debuted in the Son Of Dathomir comics.

Alongside getting tasked with rescuing Maul, alongside Gar Saxon by the puppet Prime Minister Almec, Kast was a leader of the Mandalorian super commando, the Mandalorian warriors who served Maul and the Shadow Collective. Kast's fate is unknown since she does not appear in Rebels, so it will be interesting to follow her journey.

Maul's Escape

For fans who only watch the on-screen content in Star Wars, the last time Maul was seen prior to the Siege of Mandalore was getting decimated in a lightsaber duel, and captured by, Sidious. But how did he escape Sidious's grasp?

As detailed in the Son Of Dathomir miniseries, Sidious took Maul to the Spire on Stygeon Prime, imprisoning him. Rook Kast and Gar Saxon were the ones to rescue Maul, as they followed Sidious and Maul by orders of Almec. Upon arrival to the prison, the pair fought there way through a series of droids, eventually reaching Maul's cell, and freeing him. They blew a hole in the Spire and used ziplines to get to their ship, and thus, Maul escaped, and after a few battles and a whole load of eventful stuff with Dooku, Grievous, Mother Talzin, the Shadow Collective and Sidious, Maul reached Mandalore again.

Why Wrecker Cut Off The Stinger

The introduction of the Bad Batch to Rex and company saw them explain and apologize for their delay in arriving on Anaxes. Wrecker and Hunter detail how they were on Yalbec Prime and fought off Yalbec's, with Wrecker cutting off the stinger of the queen.

If fans sat wondering why that was important, one only has to go to Darth Vader issue three from 2015. In that issue, Vader kills the last Geonosian queen. Insectoid species like the Geonosians and Yalbec's can only reproduce by way of their queens, that is why the Yalbec's attempted to mate with the Bad Batch.

Why Did Palpatine Keep Maul Alive?

Darth Maul and Mother Talzin Battle Darth Sidious

Once again, going back to the Son Of Dathomir comic series, one of the big questions that came out of the battle between Maul and Savage against Sidious is why Palpatine wants Maul alive? He tells Maul he has other plans, and since those plans are the reason why Maul is able to survive and appear in season seven, what were they?

Well, the Son Of Dathomir comics reveal Sidious wanted to use Maul in order to draw out and kill Mother Talzin once and for all. With Maul escaping captivity, Sidious plans hit a roadblock, but, as he so often did in the Clone War, Palpatine got his way, with Grievous eventually killing Talzin.

Caleb Dume & Depa Bilabba

Caleb Dume and his master Depa Billaba briefly appear in season seven, and so one might wonder what happens to the pair. Of course, Caleb Dume later becomes the fantastic Kanan Jarrus, so we know he survives Order 66, with his master not so lucky.

So, what happens? Well, the Star Wars: Kanan comics detail Caleb Dume's upbringing in the Jedi Order, Depa Billaba's interest in him, their missions, how Caleb was able to survive Order 66 thanks to his master's sacrifice, and his life after those events as he changed his name, went on the run and started drinking.

Who Has The Darksaber?

Darth Maul With the Darksaber.

For the final time going back to the Son Of Dathomir comics, some fans watched the seventh season of the show and wondered why Maul was wielding his double-bladed saber, rather than the Darksaber? While this is not known, what is known is who has it.

The simple answer is that the blade is, at the point of season seven's end, is in the hands of Maul. He used it in the climax of the comic series, and from what we see in Rebels, it appears it may have remained on Dathomir following Talzin's death.
