The Mandalorian season 3, episode 3 “The Convert” showed off the former Imperial capital of Coruscant, but may have also dropped another reference to the purrgil. The episode primarily focused on Dr. Pershing (Omid Abtahi) trying to come to terms with his unfinished research and wanting to help the New Republic. However, the episode also gave glimpses of what life was like on Coruscant after the Rebels took down the Empire and established the government.

From other Star Wars titles like The Clone Wars, it’s been learned that Coruscant is a city-covered planet, which means that very little of the actual world is ever shown. However, The Mandalorian season 3, episode 3, changes that by showing off one of the sights on Coruscant, the Umate peak, which is one of the only places a piece of the actual planet can be seen. With the attractions also come unique experiences on Coruscant, some of which were recommended to Dr. Pershing to visit.

Purrgil Would Be Part Of The Galactic Museum's Exhibit

Purrgil in Star Wars Rebels.

One of the early scenes with Dr. Pershing showed him being brought back to amnesty housing, and the droid driving him mentioned that he should visit the Galactic Museum, which has a new exhibit on hyperspace travel. As seen in Star Wars Rebels, purrgil have the natural ability to go into hyperspace. In Rebels, it was explained that within the Star Wars universe, ancient engineers learned how to utilize hyperspace by observing purrgil. These beings convert Clouzon-36 into hyperspace fuel naturally, which allows them to travel the galaxy easily.

Since the Galactic Museum has an exhibit on hyperspace travel, it would make sense to feature purrgil, since that is how hyperspace travel was first discovered. Whether or not a deceased purrgil would be on display isn’t known, but teaching others about the interesting origins of many beings' only way of crossing the galaxy would be an interesting start to an exhibit. The New Republic would be amiss if they didn’t include purrgil in their hyperspace section.

Why Purrgil Are So Important To Star Wars' Future

Grogu and purrgil in hyperspace in The Mandalorian.

Purrgil have been mentioned before in titles like Obi-Wan Kenobi, but have only shown up in Rebels - and they were key in helping the Ghost crew and the rebels secure a win during the Liberation of Lothal. To win Jedi Padawan Ezra Bridger disappeared into space with a herd of purrgil and was presumably lost in space. With the upcoming Ahsoka Disney+ show rumored to be a continuation of Rebels’ story, then it would make sense for purrgil to still be connected to the story of Ezra Bridger.

When or if Ezra Bridger or more purrgil will appear in The Mandalorian season 3 remains to be seen, but little hints that the purrgil will be vital moving forward in the Star Wars universe is exciting. Even references in The Mandalorian season 3, episode 3 serve as reminders that the purrgil have returned and will be important in upcoming titles like Ahsoka. It would be fun for Din Djarin and Grogu to see purrgil, and maybe even for Grogu to connect with them through the force as Ezra did in Rebels, but for now, all of these hints in The Mandalorian will build up to the moment.
