We still haven't recovered from Han Solo's demise in Star Wars: The Force Awakens nor the George R. R. Martin-like massacre of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Now, it looks like we'll have to prepare ourselves for even more deaths in Star Wars: The Last Jedi – especially since it's the longest Star Wars movie to date.

Seeing as it is The Empire Strikes Back of this trilogy, we should expect to see a lot of plot development, revelations, and numerous characters meeting their maker to set up the grand finale of Episode IX. Honestly, don't be surprised if you walk out of the theater with a massive lump in your throat and are forced to deal with the five stages of grief if a fan-favorite perishes.

That said, we still think that there are several characters who are safe here – namely Kylo Ren, Rey, Finn, and Poe Dameron, as they all look set to return for Episode IX. The others, though, are playing a game of Russian Roulette and could become further casualties of war.

So, put down your lightsaber, fight back those tears, and join us for this sobering realization of the 15 Characters Most Likely To Die In Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Ranked.

Chewbacca

Chewbacca in Star Wars

After the death of Chewbacca's best friend, Han Solo, in The Force Awakens, you can't help but shed a tear for the poor Wookiee. He's reached that point in his latter life where all of his friends are passing away and he's left all alone – although, judging by his Funko Pop figure, it does appear like he'll have a porg friend or two in The Last Jedi.

Despite Chewie's aging years, it seems like he might be safe in the latest Star Wars movie. It would be heartless to kill off our favorite Wookiee almost immediately after Han, wouldn't it? To do something like that would be heresy and a disservice to the fans.

Whether he lasts the whole trilogy is another story, but we don't see any reason to prepare a eulogy for Chewie yet. He still has a lot to live for.

R2-D2

Kenny Baker as R2-D2 in Star Wars The Phantom Menace

Out of the popular droids, R2-D2 is probably the safest due to how precious screen time that the little tyke had in The Force Awakens. It seems unfathomable that director Rian Johnson would have the gall to pull the plug on the master of beeps.

Even with the introduction of BB-8 to the franchise, R2 remains a firm fan-favorite and this alone should keep the droid out of harm's way. It would make no sense to off the character since it hasn't had a major role to play yet.

Sadly, with Kenny Baker no longer with us, the R2-D2 role will be played by Jimmy Vee, who went uncredited for his work on The Force Awakens. Here's hoping that Vee will have the opportunity to portray the character even more times than he already has.

Snoke

Supreme Leader Snoke on Starkiller Base in The Force Awakens

So, according to Andy Serkis, Supreme Lord Snoke is part of the dark side, but he's not a Sith Lord. This leaves us with a lot of questions about who he really is and why he's so pivotal to this whole saga.

For this reason alone, we don't see him becoming plant food just yet – and Serkis' words indicate he'll be around for a little while longer. If he's playing the Emperor Palpatine role as the Star Wars parallel narrative would dictate, his demise will most likely come at the conclusion of the trilogy and allow Kylo Ren some form of redemption and retribution.

Although, if Rey does indeed join the dark side as speculated in the trailer and forums, we do think she'd destroy Snoke first. It's a possibility, but highly unlikely. So, we think Snoke is safe… for now.

C-3PO

Anthony Daniels as C-3PO in Star Wars

Let's be honest: we'd much rather lose C-3PO than R2-D2. In fact, he's like the Jar Jar Binks of the droids – mostly there to get on our nerves and constantly in the way of others. Yes, he's a big part of the Star Wars lore and an iconic character, but that doesn't mean he's ever done anything particularly useful.

Additionally, there's the small fact that Anthony Daniels isn't exactly the nicest man on set and most cast members don't like him and his arrogant ways. To put it in context, he even argued with J.J. Abrams about the red arm that his character had in the last film because he could.

So, is it possible that C-3PO could be offed here? Well, if Daniels has annoyed the right people, then we certainly wouldn't bet against it.

Rose Tico

If you're unfamiliar with the name Rose Tico, we don't blame you since she's a brand-new character, who'll be portrayed by Kelly Marie Tran and introduced in The Last Jedi

As reported by Variety, Rian Johnson said, "[She] has the biggest new part in the movie and ironically is played by the smallest actor. She's not a soldier, she's not looking to be a hero, and she gets pulled a very big way into an adventure in this movie with Finn."

According to other sources, Rose will be a maintenance worker who serves in the Resistance. Naturally, this is a job with a high-risk potential and no medical insurance, but we don't foresee her being in any peril now. Her sister, however, is another story altogether…

Admiral Ackbar

Admiral Ackbar at console

Admiral Ackbar has been an integral part of the Star Wars canon. From his important role in the Battle of Endor to his part in helping construct the plan to destroy the Starkiller Base in The Force Awakens most recently, he's someone whom you want in your corner.

That said, how much longer do you think he'll stick around in the universe? Logically, he doesn't appear to be in any imminent danger at this moment. While he's still a part of the larger universe, he's mostly on the periphery of the main narrative and his death would be more collateral damage than impactful.

Unless the good Admiral does something risky in the next film, it's doubtful that he'll be ending his Star Wars cinematic adventures here.

Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo

Star Wars The Last Jedi Laura Dern as Admiral Holdo and Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa Behind the Scenes

Whenever a new character is introduced halfway through a trilogy, alarm bells should ring. Either the figure is paramount to something important happening or they're there to be wiped out and made an example of. In the case of Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo, it's a little murky which side of the fence she's currently on.

Information and details about Holdo have been rather scarce, but you can read about her back story in Claudia Gray's Leia, Princess of Alderaan as there's quite a bit to digest. According to the novel, she's listed as a peculiar character and has an interesting relationship with Leia.

She's a part of the Resistance, though, so the chances of her making a one-off appearance in The Last Jedi are high. After Rogue One's body count, no one is really safe anymore.

Nien Nunb

Nien Nunb sits in a spaceship in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi

If Nien Nunb got blown up and never returned, the Kenyan Star Wars fans wouldn't be too happy since he represented a slice of their culture on the big screen. It must've been equally terrific and surprising for Kikuyu speakers around the world to see a character in a major 1983 Hollywood production speaking their language.

That awesome moment aside, Nunb already dodged a bullet in The Force Awakens, as he was one of the sole surviving X-wing pilots after the battle to destroy the Starkiller Base. He got away that time, but things are getting a little too close for comfort for him and the hangman's noose is getting tighter for our jowled friend.

If there's another major battle – which we're sure there will be – don't be shocked if Nunb doesn't return from that one. Fans better get their shrines prepared just in case.

Lieutenant Connix

Billie Lourd as Kaydel Ko Connix and Carrie Fisher as Leia Organa in Star Wars The Force Awakens

Let's be honest: Billie Lourd only got the role of Lieutenant Kaydel Ko Connix because she's Carrie Fisher's daughter. She first auditioned for the part of Rey (and obviously didn't get it) and Disney threw her a bone.

While the role was fairly forgettable – even by her own admission – she's set to return for The Last Jedi. Lourd said that she'll have a larger part to play in this film, but we're struggling to see where to slot her into the overarching narrative. Maybe she will have two lines instead of one now?

Even so, we don't see any reason for Connix's survival. What purpose would she have going forward in the franchise? Is she set to be a wallflower in Episode IX as well?

Princess Leia

You might be wondering why Princess Leia Organa's name isn't at the top of this list, considering the untimely death of Carrie Fisher in December 2016. However, multiple sources affirmed that her scenes were already completed before her passing.

The only thing that changed was her role in Episode IX, which, according to previous director Colin Treverrow, was set to be much bigger and would have to be rewritten. Plans have certainly changed since it was announced that J.J. Abrams will now helm that film, so we'll have to wait and see what the outcome is.

At the same, John Boyega has stated that her sendoff in The Last Jedi is "amazing," so that leaves us wondering if Leia does indeed pass away in the film. For now, we're going to keep her as a 60/40 possibility.

General Hux

General Hux in Force Awakens

If there's one character who we're all hoping will die in The Last Jedi, it's General Hux. Seeing this pompous and ruthless commander pace up and down and complain about absolutely everything is more than enough to push us over the edge.

Considering his desire to rule the galaxy and his tension with Kylo Ren, we wouldn't be surprised if the former Ben Solo Force choked the life out of this dweeb when Snoke had his back turned. Heck, we would probably do it too if we could.

With him creating animosity in the First Order and being a general pain in the butt, we'd wager good money that Hux will be sleeping with the worms come the end of the latest film. What's the bet that it's Poe Dameron who finishes him off?

Maz Kanata

Maz Kanata Star Wars Episode 7 The Force Awakens

Why Maz Kanata, you may ask? Well, no Star Wars character has ever given a major character a path-shaping moment and lived to see them fulfill their ultimate destiny. Qui-Gon didn't, Obi-Wan didn't, Yoda didn't, Aand we don't see Kanata surviving either.

While she might've been a minor character in The Force Awakens, her few minutes on the screen were critical enough to the development of Rey's arc as well as Finn's. She's played her part and did her job, so what's next for her?

Well, we suspect she'll get a goodbye kiss from Chewie, which will delight her old bones, and then she'll say sayonara to the saga. Although, there are whispers that she could appear in Solo: A Star Wars Story in some form or capacity, but that'll obviously be set before The Last Jedi.

Captain Phasma

Captain Phasma on Starkiller Base in Star Wars Episode VII The Force Awakens

Look, considering that we lost a major hero in the last film, the dark side will need to hand over one of their own in The Last Jedi. At this point, it wouldn't make sense to make it someone as big as Kylo Ren or Snoke, so we're thinking it might be Captain Phasma instead.

Make no mistake: as the Captain of the First Order, she's an important character and has served a critical part in the proceedings already, but does she serve any larger storyline arc and would her death impact the overall narrative? Honestly, we believe no.

While she might have the reputation of being this trilogy's Boba Fett, Captain Phasma might be at the end of her road. Unfortunately, someone from her camp needs to go, and it's looking likely that it's her number that's up.

Paige Tico

Veronica Ngo as Paige Tico In Star Wars The Last Jedi

Undoubtedly, you must be wondering why Paige Tico is so high up on this list and why you should care about a new character so much. The truth is that her actions in this film are set to define the path of her sister Rose.

According to behind-the-scenes reveals and Lego (good ol' Lego always spoiling movies), Paige is a gunner for the Resistance. There are not a lot of details available regarding her personality or relationship with Rose, but it's likely that she's a hero and her sister looks up to her.

Paige's role is reportedly a minor one, so it's possible that her death could be the catalyst for Rose to become heavily involved in this story. We're purely speculating here, but from a narrative perspective, it would make a lot of sense.

Luke Skywalker

Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars The Last Jedi

Sorry, but it looks like it's time to prepare our goodbyes for Luke Skywalker. As much as we hope and pray that we're dead wrong here, the signs are looking ominous, as he appears to be on his way to hang out with Yoda, Obi-Wan, and his pops.

The question remains: will Luke die a hero's death or be stabbed in the back by someone like Rey? Whichever way, we can't escape the fact that a few generations of fans will bawl their eyes out when we see Luke for the last time on screen. Heck, it's even difficult for us to write these words.

If Luke doesn't end up dying, however, it'll be one of the greatest red herrings in cinematic history. Unfortunately, we sense a great disturbance in the Force and we simply cannot ignore it.
