Jango Fett actor Temuera Morrison wants to play the animated character Captain Rex in a live-action Star Wars film. The New Zealander is no stranger to the galaxy far, far away as he played Jango Fett - the image on which the clone army was based and, more importantly, the father of everybody's favorite bounty hunter, Boba Fett (whom he re-recorded lines for in the 2004 DVD re-releases of the original Star Wars trilogy) - in the prequel trilogy. Since then, he has also partaken in several other properties from the famed franchise as a voice actor, bringing to life some of the video game characters like Boss in Star Wars: Republic Commando, all the troopers in Star Wars: Battlefront and then voiced Boba Fett again in DICE's Star Wars Battlefront released in 2015.

First appearing in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and currently in Star Wars Rebels, Captain Rex is a staple of any Star Wars animated TV series set in the prequel era. Understandably so given that he is a clone trooper who eventually turned against the evil Galactic Empire when Order 66 was executed. Now, in the ongoing Rebels storyline, he is a key extension of the Ghost Crew and a true asset to the budding Rebellion, who have helped pave the way to end the ruthless rule of those he was supposed to serve.

Sitting down with the official website of Star Wars, Morrison reminisced on his short but memorable stint in the live-action films both via traditionally playing Jango and voicing him, Boba and some of the troopers. However, he admits that he wants to return to the lore and he believes taking the role of Captain Rex in a movie is the most plausible way to go:

They're all in my Jango Fett line – I have clones lining up. Then, of course, there's Captain Rex, who's an iconic character. I've also voiced various games. What'll make me really happy is if I get the phone call asking me to play another character – an older Captain Rex or something. I want to pop in on one of these new ones, that would be great. Suggest it to them for me! Let's get on to it!

Who Should Play Boba Fett?

In hindsight, the animated Rex somehow resembles the aged Morrison, so much so that the suggestion is not really difficult to imagine. But at this point, no live-action film is even being rumored to be in development that is set in the current Rebels era as the series' events directly feed into Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. What is on the docket, however, is a Boba Fett bounty hunter spin-off which the Kiwi actor could possibly join given his on-screen son's involvement in it.

Several weeks ago, speculation rounded the internet when a fan spotted a Rex-looking rebel in Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi during the Battle of Endor keeping fans hopeful that maybe the clone trooper was actually still a part of the Rebellion in the original trilogy, we just did not see him because much of the attention was with Luke (Mark Hamill), Han (Harrison Ford) and Leia (Carrie Fisher). Unfortunately, the claim was quickly refuted and now the fate of the clone trooper is still unknown especially with Rebels' final season teasing to be a grueling battle between the Freedom Fighters and the Imperial forces. For all we know, he could bite the dust by the time the Disney XD series wraps up.
