Disney has unveiled the trailer for Tales of the Jedi, featuring Ahsoka Tano and Count Dooku's origins. Ahsoka and Dooku are two major players in the beloved animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. While Ahsoka is introduced as Anakin Skywalker's Jedi Padawan, Dooku is an ex-Jedi turned Sith in the series who trained with legendary Jedi Yoda before his fall to the dark side. The prequel era continues to be explored in Star Wars' animated and live-action television universe, with The Bad Batch and Obi-Wan Kenobi centering on the gap of time between Order 66 and A New Hope. Co-created by Dave Filoni and Charles Murray, Tales of the Jedi will delve even further into Star Wars canon's past. Containing six shorts from the Clone Wars timeline, the series will explore Ahsoka's childhood and training with Anakin, featuring the return of Ashley Ecktstein as the voice of the beloved character. The animated collection will also delve into a young Count Dooku's journey to becoming a Sith. At 2022’s Star Wars Celebration Anaheim, one episode of Tales of the Jedi, “Life and Death,” was revealed, showing Ahsoka as a toddler on Shili. The post, teasing 'two stories of fate,' also reveals the release date for the shorts. See the trailer below:

Using the same CGI style as The Clone Wars and The Bad Batch, the collection of shorts is shaping up to be a perfect return to the animated prequel era. The footage of Anakin training his padawan in the trailer is intense, showing a side of their relationship that was explored less, though still present, in the often lighthearted Clone Wars series. Likewise, seeing the clips of Mace Windu and Dooku fighting side-by-side is fascinating and will likely enrich both force users' Clone Wars storylines. Based on the footage, it's clear that Tales of the Jedi will deliver plenty of Clone Wars nostalgia while adding depth to the beloved characters and villains it will feature.

With so much to look forward to in the live-action and animated Star Wars universes, Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi will set itself apart by giving the audience new information about characters they thought they knew well. While it's unlikely that the collection of shorts will completely change the characterization of either Ahsoka, Dooku, or those they fought beside and against, the detailed pieces of backstory it will offer can set the stage for how the characters are received going forward. With the live-action Ahsoka series coming up, Tales of the Jedi will also give audiences a deeper understanding of the Togruta warrior.
