A fan on Twitter has made a beautiful render of what a special edition Xbox Series X might look like if it was branded after Star Wars Squadrons. The Star Wars space combat game is set to release in October for Windows, Xbox One, and PS4. It is hotly anticipated by fans, many of whom are nostalgic for similar games from the past like 1993's Star Wars: X-Wing.

It's been over half a year since the Xbox Series X was officially revealed back in December. While the console still has a few months before it launches, fans are already speculating on what it might look like when it inevitably gets special editions to coincide with major game releases. Both the Series X and its competitor the PS5 have very distinctive appearances that have generated some mixed reactions online. Aesthetics are clearly a factor that gamers care deeply about, and this has led to a lot of fans rendering what their ideal console would look like. The internet is chock full of creations like this, some of which can even get passed along as genuine products.

One such fan render, which is explicitly not an official product, appeared on Twitter courtesy of fan POPeART. POPeART conceived of an Xbox Series X modeled after Star Wars Squadrons, which isn't even being released for the console (though the developer has confirmed that it will be playable on next-gen through backwards compatibility). The console looks excellent, lovingly decked out in the miscellaneous pipes and panels that are ubiquitous on so many vehicles and technological creations in the Star Wars universe. The controller looks gorgeous too, colored to resemble an iconic Rebel Alliance starfighter pilot helmet. It's a marvelous homage to both the game and the greater Star Wars franchise.

POPeART's render was so remarkable that it was even noticed by Ian Frazier, the creative director for Star Wars Squadrons. He retweeted the picture, joking that he was nervous people would take it as a legitimate announcement but complementing the render all the same. Following similar remarks from the community manager of EA's Star Wars brand, POPeART also shared a similar render for the PlayStation 5, which looks just as spectacular as the Xbox.

Creative endeavors like the ones POPeART has been sharing are always delightful things to see. The internet is a wide, wild place, but at its best and most pleasant it's a place where people can share their passions. POPeART clearly has a passion for creating these fan renders; that's obvious from even a cursory glance at their Twitter profile. It's nice to see such an exceptional piece of art get recognized by the very people who inspired it, and it's also nice to see such a beautiful tribute to Star Wars Squadrons.
