Electronic Arts will be revealing the gameplay for their highly anticipated, space battle centric Star Wars: Squadrons game this Thursday as part of their upcoming EA Play Live Event. The publisher provided fans with an enticing trailer for the latest in their line of steadily improving Star Wars titles yesterday, with none other than Summer Games Fest host Geoff Keighley presiding over the visually-stunning showcase.

Set during the time between the fall of the evil Galactic Empire and the rise of the equally-sinister First Order, Star Wars Squadron looks to tell the story of two opposing fighter squads as they pilot a number of iconic Star Wars spaceships battle through the final days of the war that defined the Original Trilogy. During the aforementioned trailer event, Keighley revealed several additional tidbits about the new game, such as its planned October release date and affordable price, but fans were still left in the dark when it came to Squadron’s space-faring gameplay.

That will change this Thursday, as EA itself announced in a post on their Star Wars Twitter page yesterday. Consisting of a Star Wars: Squadrons motion poster, the tweet reveals that the new title’s gameplay will be shown off at the EA Play Live Event scheduled for later this week.

Prior to its official unveiling, Star Wars: Squadrons was leaked under the codename “Project Maverick” back in March. Further details of this mystery title were revealed a few days ago, with EA pegging Squadrons as a spiritual sequel to the beloved Star Wars: Rogue Squadron series and stating that the game will have a strong focus on multiplayer in addition to a solo campaign. So far, EA has been on a roll with their newest Star Wars releases, as 2017’s Star Wars: Battlefront II has evolved into a popular online experience, and last year’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was successful enough to mark the beginning of its own game series.

The Star Wars: Squadrons trailer looked very promising, so it will certainly be exciting to see the gameplay behind the new title in a few short days. If EA can recapture the magic of the Rogue Squadron series in their newest game, they will be well on their way to continuing to repair their previously shaky Star Wars image when Star Wars: Squadrons hits all current-generation consoles this October.
