Warning! SPOILERS for The Book of Boba Fett episode 6.

Grogu faces a hard decision between staying with the Jedi or going with the Mandalorian in The Book of Boba Fett, but Star Wars may have already spoiled his choice. The Book of Boba Fett episode 6 once again takes the focus away from Temuera Morrison's ex-bounty hunter. Instead, Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) returns in the episode on a quest to deliver Mandalorian armor to Grogu. However, Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) stops him, making it clear that his presence will distract from Grogu's training with Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill). At the end of the episode, Luke Skywalker offers Grogu a tough choice. He can accept the Mandalorian armor and forsake the ways of the Jedi, or he can accept Yoda's (Frank Oz) old lightsaber and continue his training.

The Star Wars sequel trilogy reveals the backstory of Luke Skywalker's Jedi Academy. Skywalker originally intended the academy to teach a new generation of Jedi, but things went horribly wrong. He explains in The Last Jedi that he sensed trouble in Ben Solo/Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and was shocked by the darkness he found when he looked inside his nephew's mind. Unfortunately, Kylo woke up, saw Luke threatening him, and proceeded to wreck the training temple and kill other students.

Though Grogu has a tough choice between the Jedi or the Mandalorian, Star Wars seemingly already revealed his pick. In The Book of Boba Fett, Luke Skywalker tells Grogu that he will be the first student at his academy if he takes the path of the Jedi. And the statement is telling because Ben Solo was actually Luke's first pupil. Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren comic book, a four-part canon story, reveals details about Kylo Ren's background. Kylo Ren explains he was the first student in the comic book, and others soon followed. So unless Star Wars retcons Kylo Ren's backstory, Grogu won't remain Luke's student.

Mandalorian Dies saving grogu from Kylo Ren

It makes sense that Grogu would choose the way of the Mandalorian. Over two seasons of The Mandalorian, Grogu and Din Djarin have built an unbreakable bond. Baby Yoda even asks Din Djarin for permission before heading off to train with Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian season 2 finale. Luke himself seems to push Grogu towards choosing the Mandalorian, noting that Jedi training can take years, and he may never see the Mandalorian again if he takes Yoda's lightsaber and sees the training through. Since Luke Skywalker mentions that Grogu would be his first student, it seems Baby Yoda's mind is made up.

Of course, The Book of Boba Fett has retconned other canon Star Wars material. In the canon Star Wars: Aftermath book trilogy, the Sarlacc is supposedly gravely injured by Jabba the Hutt's sail barge wreckage, and Jawas pillage the creature's body. However, The Book of Boba Fett reveals a different story. In episode 4, Temuera Morrison's bounty hunter returns to the Sarlacc to retrieve his armor, and Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) kills it with a seismic charge. It's a swift departure from the Sarlacc's previous fate. Grogu likely won't stay with Luke because that would retcon Kylo Ren's backstory. However, as shown with the Sarlacc, Star Wars has blown up its canon before.
